Ankiel's pitcher-hitter switch working
After rocketing through the minor leagues as an up-and-coming pitcher -- and crashing and burning in the 2000 postseason -- Rick Ankiel is trying to make it back to the majors by hitting rockets. The former Cardinals' mound phenom is progressing toward a return by putting up solid offensive statistics as an outfielder with the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds.

Thank you Mr. DeWitt, Jr.
What a joke..........hey we can win without spending anymore money.........we did last year. Hell I think their payroll is less this year than last. Very frustrating to be a deicated Redbird fan right now. ****GO SPEND SOME OF THAT WORLD SERIES REVENUE BOOST!!!!**** Now would not be the time for losing the non-die hard redbird fans.

its good to see a guy not give up on his dream to make it in the big's. I hope he makes it as a cardinal. it would be a great story for a team that has had a rough year both on and off the field.

ah yes, back on point, sorry had a rant there. I hope to see Rick come up and prevail as an outfielder. It would be very uplifting.

pitching is not the problem at alll if u actually watch any games or look at the numbers its the offense that is hurting us what is it like only 19 homeruns and pujols and duncan hit 12 of those not pitching its offense i am a cardnials fan i know they r going to get out of this and turn it around ankiel owuld only make things more crowded if he was called up any way

I thought there was a five year no crying rule once your team wins the World Series. See every NewYorker is starting to complain louder and louder since the start of the 2006 season. You redbird fans should just ( as Mike & Mike say ) SHUT UP. **** my team hasn't had a winning record since Davey Johnson was manager and Jon Miller was our play by play man. I rather be in your shoes thatnhave Peter Angelos running a mock of your team and city. Redbird fans don't worry be happy!

I think the St_Louis_DeadBirds guy thinks the same way as I do Angelos. More to power to the fans!!!

The problem with the Cards is not the pitching (although Wells has stunk it up!), it is the hitting. Not one player other than Duncan (and he doesn't play everyday) has hit this year. The Cards will eventually hit this year, I mean, the whole team can't be in a hitting slump all year. I think the cards should have gotten rid of Izzy and spent that money on a leadoff guy who can get on base 40 percent of the time. They need a true leadoff man.

The Cardinals could really use Danny Haren (instead of Mulder), Jeff Suppan, and Jason Marquis. Any one of the three would be our ace this year. I will never understand why management went "tightwad" after winning a World Series. They need to give up on Wells now and get some proven talent. You cannot expect Dave Duncan to perform rehab miracles every year.
How about some outfielders that can bat their weight? Duncan is the only one playing at a big-league level right now. Their money would have been MUCH better spent by saying goodbye to Edmunds and bringing in someone who was not way past their peak.

I love it when people say "fire tony the drunk" (hall of fame manager who just won the world series with an 83 win team)... or "we could really use Jason Marquis (who was so bad last year he couldn't make the postseason roster of an 83 win team) ..."should have gotten rid of Izzy" , yeah, 'cause teams are lining up for a guy who it wasn't known if he'd be healthy enough to pitch... as much as you all wish you were a GM of a major league club, the other GM's of the league REALLY wish you were, idiots

I love the Cards and it pains me to see this happening to them. I know they will turn this around. We just have to get the bats to start swinging at good pitches. Duncan is having a great year and no doubt pujols will start performing like he always has. The man (pujols) should have three MVPs already so just wait and see. I agree that we should have used Edmonds money on getting somebody else to come in. Rolen really needs to do something soon to justify all that money he got when he came to The Loo. hopefully he can avoid injuries and start swinging the bat like he did when he first arrived. GO CARDS!!!!!

and lets not forget about Molina. He's really stepping up his game right now. Too bad we can't get everybody to do this at the same time. We would be unstoppable.
