Munchak watch is on

07:24 AM ET 12.31 | Already, coaches have paid the price for disappointing seasons -- and, now, Mike Munchak waits. On a day when four more NFL head coaches were fired -- bringing the total to six since the Texans axed Gary Kubiak on Dec. 6 -- the Titans coach was hardly relieved to still be employed at the end of the day. He's in limbo, awaiting a meeting with president/CEO Tommy Smith, and he could be waiting several more days. "It's hard," Munchak said during his season-ending press conference at Saint Thomas Sports Park. "It is different. I am confident in what we are doing, obviously. I feel good. This is just a process I have to go through. I'm a head coach and this is a part of it. ... I am just ready to go with the process." The Titans finished 7-9 this season, and Munchak's overall record in three years is 22-26.

I'm surprised Munchak made it through lunchtime yesterday.

Bud Adams would have fired his arse right after their first loss to the Jags in week 10.

So the article is wondering if he is going to be fired at the same time saying the meeting is still several more days away. ok.... connect the dots, la, la la...

I'm more surprised that Dennis Allen still collects a check in Oakland.

The thinking with Allen was that they blew up what was passing for a team in Oakland and that he wouldn't have much to work with this season. Unlike Cleveland, Mark Davis actually stuck to his guns. I would bet Reggie McKenzie and Allen are both on the hot seat starting now, though.

In other words, the Titans are going to be slow out of the gate on trying to line up their new coach.

The only thing in his favor is he has been with the organization as a coach since 94 and a player before that, but this league is not about longevity, but about win at all cost.

Comes down to one thing for him. Is Jake Locker the real deal or not.

QUOTE(#9):

If the Bears do not keep Cutler, expect Tennessee to send flowers and love letters.

Tea leaves say Cutler stays in Chi-town. Bears draft too low for decent replacement - may take a lower down one in later rounds - no good vets are available on the open market, Cutler will take less money to stay. Trestman and Emery will be more interested in standing pat - and keeping their jobs - than doing anything unusual. (Trestman is a boring person by nature.)

He gets hurt a lot. Stretches back to college.

Just an opinion, but to me he looks like a less skittish Ponder.

So I guess I'd say no.

Good point. If intentions are to let him go, put him out of his misery. Get in contention to go after whomever.

I'm still surprised that Rex Ryan wasn't sent packing. He had great success the first couple years, but since then, sheesh! I also see Oakland and Tennessee getting rid of their people. I was also surprised to see Chudzinski go after one season. Trading your first round drafted running back and then suffering a bunch of injuries should have bought him additional time.

Mornin' Stu...

I was surprised too, but we don't know the particulars of Rex's 2014 season. He hasn't been offered an extension yet, so Jon Idzik isn't really taking that much of a gamble on Rex so far. In Rex's favor, he coached up his team for a road win against a division rival, and knocked the Phins out of the playoffs. His team played hard and won for him; there's something to be said for that, but it doesn't mean he's the right guy for their long-term future.

QUOTE(#7):

Wrong. Bud was a Munchak fan.

Being a fan is one thing. Thinking Munchak was still the guy to lead the franchise into the future is another thing.

We'll never know for sure.

Matt Stafford and Jay Cutler nod in agreement.

Mark Sanchez and Christian Ponder sneer derisively.
