07:24 AM ET 12.31 | Now, it's official. After suffering a torn pectoral muscle in his right shoulder, Hawks forward Al Horford will undergo season-ending surgery on Tuesday in Atlanta, a league source told Yahoo Sports. Horford suffered the injury Thursday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and an MRI on Friday revealed the tear. The loss of Horford is devastating to the Hawks' frontline. At 17-14, the Hawks have a stronghold on the third-best record in the sputtering Eastern Conference. Only Miami, Indiana and Atlanta have winning records in the East. It's the second torn pectoral for Horford in three years. ... [Horford] had been averaging 18.6 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Hawks. Horford had told David Aldridge of NBA.com last week that it was unlikely he could return this season.

I hated to see him get hurt. Horford is one of the NBA's class guys and hard workers.

Bad news for the Hawks.

Great news for the Celtics.

Time to trade for Asik or Wait for Bynum to get waived.

THE most under-rated player in the league

Second torn 'pec' in three years?

This guy is done. Who needs a center who can't even raise his arms above his head without getting injured........

Agreed.

Atlanta was doing very well, which makes it more of a shame. I don't think the Hawks will make any big moves to replace him, though. Maybe Asik, but Rockets seem to want a lot.

It is not the same pec, different one.

The guy is not done. And NO he's not a center. The Hawks are stupid and dumb enough to keep forcing Al to play center year after year. Plain idiots. The guy can dominate at PF 95% of the nights, but the Hawks management never considered a true center. I hate the Hawks management. They're spoiling this young man's career. Al is a class act.
