Yakupov, Eakins air their grievances

07:40 AM ET 12.31 | This likely isn't the New Year's Eve that Nail Yakupov anticipated. Yakupov will be the odd-man out Tuesday against the Phoenix Coyotes, sitting as a healthy scratch on the first of a three-game road trip for the Oilers. "Yak is not going to play the next game," [coach Dallas Eakins] said. "Yak and I had a very long, in-depth conversation (Monday) morning, probably a good 40-45 minutes, the longest I've had with any player. Him and I have sorted a few things." ... The first overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, this is the third time Yakupov will be a healthy scratch this season. He sat for a pair of games early in the year. "It's still back to, you have to earn it," Eakins said. "You have to earn it and you have to do a number of things on the ice every day. Every day, it can never change."

There really is only possible solution.

Trade him to Boston. Hell, Boston actually has the pieces to make it work anyway.

His stock is dropping so he would be cheaper by the day

Eakins has dealt with Kadri (see prev) so I am confident he will handle this as best it can be handled.

Subban, a 1st rounder and one of the young defensemen not named Krug or Hamilton.

All of the above.

Today's useless stat.

Ovechkin leads the league with 30 goals. He's also 9th from the worst in the NHL in +/- at a -15.

Amazing.

Yakupov and Kadri seem to be interchangeable.

During the 2010 - 2011 season him and Backstrom were both a plus 24. Now he's a minus 15 and Backstrom who, leads the Caps in points by the way, is a minus 5. What happened?

no its not. Rangers have this guys number.....yeah he has a sexy slappa from the face off dot on the man up but he cant skate with the puck anymore. Everytime he rushes up ice he gets it poked off his stick. I love the breakouts when he just stands on the red line or opposing teams blue line......one trick pony.

I dont have that kind of energy but it would be interesting to see Ovi's stats with Semin (ew!) as his center and without......

Mike Green is healthy and playing a lot. This team doesn't like defense much........just shooting. Hasn't helped much lately has it? Typical year coming up. Mediocre and a quick exit from the playoffs (if they get in). I don't blame Holtby (or the other goalies). Tough to get 45 shots against most nights and play 65% of the game in your own end. Oh well, there's always the Redskins. Oops..............wait a minute.

He scored a nice Slappa on Hank.

Mike has a good (even great) slapper. But he often contributes to 2 or 3 goals for the opponent for every one he scores. Last night against the Sens is typical of his play this year. Is everything his fault? Of course not, but he ain't helping either. The aim (I thought) is to win, not personal stats. If Ovie scores 60 goals, is a -30 and we don't make the playoffs or slink out in the first round..........I don't count that as a good year.

I think I'll start watching more curling.

Yak's playing the let-me-out-of-Edmonton game - he's dying to get on a club like the 'Hox (Ben Smith, Antti Raanta, Nick Leddy and the ?first pick in the 2014 second round? for Yakaputsa and Dubnyk), deRangers (DelZotto, Girardi, Stepan and next year's first rounder for NaYak, Hemsky and Phillip Larsen), or even the Flo-righta Pantyers (Upshall, Kulikov, Clemmensen, Alex Petrovic and a 2nd or 3rd round pick for Yak, Dubnyk, and Phillip Larsen).
