07:31 AM ET 01.01 | If the Indians don't trade Asdrubal Cabrera -- who has been with the team since 2007 and in 2013 hit .242 with 14 home runs and 64 RBIs in 136 games -- this winter, might they keep him all year and eventually extend to him a qualifying offer? That's a long way down the road. If the Indians start the season with Cabrera, and are contending for the AL Central title or wild card, I bet they'd stay with Cabrera. Whether or not they make him a qualifying offer at the end of the 2014 season, would depend in part on the progress of Francisco Lindor. If Lindor was ready to be the Tribe's opening day shortstop in 2015, I don't think they'd make Cabrera a qualifying offer. Remember, there is a lot of speculation in this answer.

Plain Dealer writer you forgot and left out a couple of key words. If the Tribe is contenting for a Wild Card spot instead of winning the Central Division is more accurate with the Tigers in your division.

Tigers had have become the meek Tigers, they got rid off a quality starter and a tough hitter in Fielder,
still thinking the Tigers are a number one contender in their division???just think if Miguel Cabrera gets injuried for three months, then the Tigers aren't likely to win their division!

the Tigers took a big step on the reverse mode while trading top pitching and top hitting and refusing to sign infante, the team should regreted trading those top pitcher/hitter
