MDZ on borrowed time in New York

07:43 AM ET 01.01 | The Rangers closed out 2013 with a win, and they did so without Michael Del Zotto. It is no longer a shock when coach Alain Vigneault makes [Del Zotto] a healthy scratch. The only surprise left is that Glen Sather hasn't traded the 23-year-old defenseman yet. (Even though I wrote on Sunday that Del Zotto seems too valuable to deal in the short term.) "(Del Zotto's offensive and power play abilities) haven't been there on a consistent enough basis to say that even if he has a bad game or two, he's an automatic shoe-in," Vigneault said bluntly on Tuesday afternoon before a 5 p.m. match against the Florida Panthers. "The way he's played, he's fighting for that third-pair 'D.'" ... "The last two games, Michael was just jittery with the puck," Vigneault continued. "It caused some turnovers and led to quite a few scoring opportunities."

"MDZ on borrowed time in New York"

Nothing like greeting us in the New Year with some moldy left overs from two months ago, is there?

Right back at ya my friend.

And as for MDZ, he's just a victim of geography. In To***to they give underachieving D-men 7 mil for 7 years.

Rumor has it Dave Nonis is desperately trying to acquire him. He's a shoe in for alternative captain.

Thanks Roamer. Wishing a happy and healthy New Year to all. Even BGM! Here's to hoping that all the disputes can stay good natured.

Same to you and all here.

If we didn't already have a lot of good young D, I'd trade Marchand (especially after last night), and Rangers have a history with this type of player- all those years with Avery have to pay off somewhere, right?

That'd be a great trade for the Oil. If I was MacT I'd grab it in a heartbeat is Slats blinks.

DelZotto ain't nearly as bad, as all the NY-sayers are spoutin' - but the 'peggers don't need 'im. Richards is all but toast. That trade is just plains illy - ja (or yaw - if y'all prefer).

January 1, 2014  03:20 PM ET

It won't matter what they do if they don't start scoring. They went from a team that couldn't score on the powerplay to a team that only scores on the powerplay. The game last night was a snorer. Two teams and between the 2 of them I think there's one guy with 10 or more goals.

January 1, 2014  07:28 PM ET

I'll say one thing about team us - good luck - and wow, are they ever gonna need it. Wonder how many injury replacements they're goimg to need before the thing starts.
