07:17 AM ET 01.02 | Happy New Year, Mark Mulder. [Mulder] has reached agreement on a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels that includes an invitation to the team's big league spring training camp, Mulder's agent confirmed Wednesday. If Mulder makes the big league roster and achieves all his incentives and award bonuses, the deal could be worth more than $6 million, according to a baseball source. "Mark chose the Angels because he has an opportunity to compete for a spot in the starting rotation. Along with the Angels being a championship-caliber club, that made it a good fit," agent Brian Charles of Big League Management Company said. Mulder, 36, is 103-60 with a 4.18 ERA in nine seasons with the Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals. He hasn't pitched since 2008.

To be a championship club first Mr. Agent they have to make the playoffs, and I don' think your client has that much left in the tank to help them get there.

He hasn't pitched since 2008, but he hasn't pitched effectively since 2005. What in the wide world of sports makes the Angels think this guy can be a major leaguer again?

The same rationale applied from Pujols' LUDICROUS contract?

I would hope that nearly the entire $6M is incentive based. I agree with The Moose, 2008 is mis-leading. He barely pitched after about June of 2006.

easy to say than done, the pitcher needs to prove the angels unless otherwise, there are things in the pitcher's way and it won't be easy to prove he is healthy enough, plus Pujols can't guarantee any good run production the same is with Hamilton, and now that the halos are trumboless things are going to be really hefty, still thinking the two higher payed hitters in Hamilton and Pujols are your answers for 2014
season?think again, these guys are getting older not younger,at this rate the angels could pick the last place in their division for the last 5 to 6 years!!!

well they still thinking in the old Mulder stats, should Mulder old stats revive and ther pitcher become a succesfull pitcher as in the past??guess the halos will continue to dream not that it will work but that's why you should never gave up big long term contracts!!

doubtfull, and too risky the pitcher has been out of the game for far too long, all this mess the halos brought into themselves, long contracts and the GM useless thoughts and ideas killed any good hopes in their farm system as well in the major league team, wrong deals,madson/blanton/vargas/Jerome williams,Trumbo's trade, everything has a hefty concecuencess though!!
