Bill Belichick wants to eliminate extra points

12:24 PM ET 01.02 | In the NFL, touchdowns only reward you six points, but it has become a foregone conclusion that kickers will boot the extra point through the uprights to give their team seven points. Kickers can almost automatically knock in an extra point, but that is not something that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick appears to be a fan of. While Belichick would like to see kicking stay a part of the game, he would like to see the NFL do something about making field goals less automatic and more exciting. Belichick has toyed around with drop kicks in the past, which would be one way of doing things, or the NFL could consider forcing teams to run a play to secure the extra point. One way to spice things up would be to make teams run a play from the two-yard line for an extra point, while moving the two-point conversion line back to the five. It may take some convincing to ever get a rule change regarding extra points, but if more people out there are interested in Belichick's thought process then it is something that the league could eventually consider.

His tuque is on too tight.

I think after a touchdown, you should be able to move it back to the 40 and have two chances to score another one and then repeat until you could potentially win a game 161-3!

Tuque? You got some Canuck in you?

Only three more yards to score the two-points? What's the point of going for only one?

Just dumb. Absolutely dumb. And whoever wrote this must not have put any thought into it.

Another example of fixing something that ain't broke.

They should spend the time fixing the limitations on defensive hitting that are crippling defenses along with taking out offensive players knees.

As well as the training their officials go through. These guys clearly weren't updated on the new field goal rules for 2013.

PATs and FGs are becoming too automatic. Pulling the goal posts together is worth considering.

January 2, 2014  08:56 PM ET

let the defense hit the kicker, that will make them flinch and miss more....defenseless players my foot....

Score the touchdown=6 points.
Kick a 60 yard PAT)=1 point
Exciting enough?

January 2, 2014  09:07 PM ET

Why? This is probably one of the few remaining things about the NFL that doesn't need to be fixed.

How about we work out a consistent way to call offensive and defensive pass interference and revert back to the 'stupid' way that officials determined whether or not a receiver caught the ball?

January 2, 2014  09:26 PM ET

Sometimes its okay to keep things the way they are.

Agreed. We see how the rule about leading with your head as a defensive player has been a huge success.

You do realize that for him to have some Canuck in him would cause a bit of a disturbance on the hockey threads, don't you?

Chapaquidik Cheatin' Chowdah should think about eliminating the taping of opponents first.

There you go... just move the ball spot back further.

I could actually go for that.

Where is everyone this evening?

Splitting time between the Stars/Canadiens game and Oklahoma's shocker. Good sports night Stu.
