07:40 AM ET 01.03 | In terms of amateur hockey, Malmo, Sweden, is the capital of the world these days, and an international incident, of sorts, took place Thursday between Russia and Team USA. [After sealing the game with an empty-netter, Russian forward Pavel Buchnevich] went skating in celebration right past the U.S. bench. The Americans took exception. "It's pretty immature on their part," said American forward Stefan Matteau. ... Buffalo Sabres forward Mikhail Grigorenko said his countrymen were just happy to have won the game, but that perhaps they should have scaled back their celebrations. "We probably should have not done that," said the 19-year-old. "But after the empty net goal we realized that we won the game. I should probably say sorry to team United States, because it wasn't really sportsmanlike."

You start talking large busts and Harry Crack's desk starts levitating.

Apprently this was deemed offensive....

That's OK, boys. You can welcome that punk, Pavel Buchnevich and some of his buddies, proper like when they come to play in the NHL. Time's on your side.

But ... unlike some of the other punks ...at least he's a gentleman.

Get in the trunk Pavel, we'll take you to the NHL where you'll fit right in.

January 3, 2014  10:37 AM ET

Oddly enough Yahoo Sports left out the part where Pavel was hit in the face by a stick from the US bench.

well the issue is that the 'merican gave the russian a little love tap with the blade of his stick across the face, while the player was "celebrating" infront of the usa bench. It was pretty lousy all around.

To the Russian...you beat a team that you were supposed to beat. Big difference between being happy about a goal vs purposely skating infront of the other team's bench, making eye contact with the opposing players and shouting in their faces.

To the 'merican...equally poor sportsmanship.

Overall, if that Ruskie wants to play in the big leagues, I think that the 'merican did him a big favor. In the NHL he would have gotten much more than a little love top for something like that.

Boy o boy am I glad that the habs didn't stick on him when his draft status was high and the montreal media were salivating at the prospect of landing him.

QUOTE(#14):

I'm not so sure about this one. I see guys celly'ing in front of the opponents bench all the time.

find me a clip of a guy doing what he did without retaliation and I'll give you a cookie. The guy didn't skate by the bench with his arms in the air, he turned to them, engaged them and took a big dump all over them. No chance a punk does something like that in the NHL without retaliation.

Just think how much it's gonna hurt when an Ovechkin or Yakupov hot dogs it up for the home town fans in their thumping of Canada at the Limpics....

I'm sure i've seen it. And no Leaf ever does anything about it, dammit.

LOL - That's because one goon (Staypuff) is dozing and Lupes is holding back the other goon (Kadri). :-)

BTW - How many games for the glassman today?

funny, if SOMEONE in the league was going to put a stick to an opponents face by way of retaliation I would have thought it would be the original lumberjack himself, staypuft.
