08:20 AM ET 01.04 | The talk surrounding University of Miami football coach Al Golden and his reported interest in the vacant coaching job at Penn State, his alma mater, intensified into a firestorm Friday. Golden's name came up as a possible replacement for former Nittany Lions coach Bill O'Brien even before O'Brien officially left this week to become the new coach of the NFL's Houston Texans. A Miami football staffer who spoke on condition of anonymity told the Miami Herald in a text that Golden told him Friday evening that any reports about Golden leaving Miami for Penn State were "not true." But John Clark of NBC10 in Philadelphia posted on Twitter that a Penn State search committee will travel Saturday "to meet with Al Golden" and that the committee had intended to come Friday but the trip was "postponed because of snow."

Golden was a former player and his loyalties must be very strong to return. He showed what he can do at Miami. Now Hurricanes have to find another coach. Calling John Gruden?

There are also some reports he has not yet accepted as they try to work out some issues.

I hope Golden leaves...

LSU trying to poach 2 of their recruits... this will help tremendously

Da U got a tough stretch coming up with the FSU is having? Looks like Jimbo's gonna roll for quite some time. Great time for Golden to go home

Miami must be attractive for Chuckie.

PSU will sink further into the abyss with Golden at the helm. He has been terrible at Miami.

Based on what? The fact that he sucked in the NFL?

Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Lou Holtz, Bobby Petrino all sucked in the NFL, so whats you're point?

The college game is all about recruiting, IMO, Gruden was born to recruit.

And BTW, Gruden hardly sucked in the NFL.

Golden would be a good fit at PSU and is likely to make a long term commitment.
He's a decent guy trying to run a clean program in that Miami circus.

Ummm, yeah he did suck...badly. I live in the Tampa area, and saw him in action many times. He sucketh mightily.

95-81 in 11 years, with a Super Bowl win, and if not for a fluke tuck rule in New England a good chance for 2 Super Bowl wins. Maybe not HOF material, but he hardly sucks.

The Bucs went 9-7 in Gruden's last year. The next year they went 3-13, and other than a 10 win season in 2010, they have basically been a joke every year since.

Ummm, maybe it wasn't Gruden.

I guess Lane Kiffin doesn't want that job either. Golden looks like a perfect pedo in that track suit.

Thank you for illustrating my point. He sucks.
