Come To LA, Bro.

It makes a lot of difference investing your money in players in your system that you know every move up and down they make. With Tanaka you are rolling the dice on a high price player who you might not know all of the details about him.

QUOTE(#3):

Good point. I would sign Garza. Proven, and no draft pick loss.

Garza is a DB. Boston just got rid of all their DB's. Clubhouse chemistry is great right now, no need to ruin it with this guy.

Let me clarify. I don't mean Boston should sign Garza, or even Tanaka. I mean teams such as the Angels or Blue Jays that really need starting pitching.

okay, gotcha.

the red sox don't need any japanese pitcher, the team would prefer inhouse product instead!!!

i don't the angels would benefit from the Garza signing, this pitcher has become a injury-prone and its hard to tell how long he would last in the mound!!!

the thing is,the player would take whatever the major league teams offer him,
and in other words he may not be higher payed but the major teams are making the top payed pitcher!!

This could be a planted story for misdirection, a head fake.
The Sox may linger around on these negotiations to see where the bidding goes, step in if they feel the price is right, or at least to drive the price up if they think he's going to the Yankers.

What advantage do the Sox have lying in the weeds? The price for Tanaka is going to be sky high whether or not the Sox are interested.

IMO, the best move is for them to bid up the price on the Yankees/Dodgers.

Only advantage is to become a disruptive factor if the opportunity arises, understandably not a high probability but a legitimate negotiating tactic nevertheless.
Driving up the price has got to be their ultimate goal, to keep the Yankees above the Luxury Tax threshold.
