Marian Hossa won't back out of Olympics

09:22 AM ET 01.04 | Marian Hossa braced for the possibility that his back would cause him problems this season. But more than halfway through the season, Hossa's feeling far better than he expected. He has missed only three games because of injury and none because of his back. So much so, in fact, that Hossa's not at all entertaining the idea of staying home for the Olympics and taking the nearly three weeks off to rest and prepare for the playoff push. He's one of Slovakia's all-time greatest players, and the bitter memories of his nation's near-mammoth upset of Canada in the 2010 semifinals in Vancouver still linger.

Live the dream Marion, but I don't thing anyone is going to derail the Canadians this time either.

USA is building a wall of defensive minded players this year so we'll see. We have a tendency to have a couple offensive minded defensemen that could leave use vulnerable in transition-which is where guys like Hossa thrive.

I was stunned when they included Orpik. His type of defenseman rarely gets picked for All Stars/Olympics so we may be able to shake up Canada, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Odd that Marian's not playing for Canada this year. After all, that's his pattern.

A bit of a pay-for-hire you say?

They'll matchup well against Canada, Orpik will play sparingly I'd think. Would be funny if he takes Crosby out.
I don't see them matching up against Sweden, Russia or Slovakia all that well though as they're a little bit more disciplined and less prone to spurts of momentum then Canada.

p.s I like how after the winter classic when they were announcing the U.S.A players Pacioretty was the only player to have half of his name covered by the girls hair over her back.
Another conspiracy by Bettman to put the Canadians down. (Montreal Canadians)

Lol what are you basing this crap on, exactly?

Past Canadian hockey teams in the Olympics (mostly over the past 3).
Ofcourse there are the disciplined lines but when you have guys like Subban on the team there wil definitely be momentum shifts that they're prone to dealing with poorly.
Sweden, Russia and Solvakia (to a lesser degree the the former two) have a more veteran defense and more disciplined on line shifts (for the majority of their games).
The difference is seen simply by watching the practices and games, not just judging players and results alone.

By no means is it a glaring hole in Team Canada's game, exploiting it once is probably the best that can be done unless they don't plan on winning and U.S has built a team that can exploit that potential weakness in our squad.

"Marian Hossa "braced" for the possibility that his "back" would cause him "problems" this season."

How brilliantly clever those Chicago Sun Times sports writers are. I don't know how they do it, but sometimes they just outdo themselves.

Good news for the Slovaks - but boy-o-boy, a whole bunch of the BleakHox are going to feel like they've been playing for ten years straight through by the time May, June and July? roll around.
