Brewing Rays-Twins feud

Those Rays-Twins games just got a lot more interesting. A Friday that started with Carl Crawford saying ex-Ray Delmon Young needed to "shut up and play baseball" and offering to "say it in his face or any kind of other way that would make him understand" ended with the former teammates saying they have little use for each other and no reason to talk things out. Crawford was uncharacteristically upset and animated at Young's response to earlier comments about the Rays having a calmer clubhouse after the trades of Young and Elijah Dukes, and sought out a St. Petersburg Times reporter before Friday's workout to deliver several messages to Young. Word got quickly to Fort Myers, where Young is in camp with the Twins, but not much came back, with Young declining to further engage.

These kids need to grow up and act like some adults. They also need to stop breaking the law and bing stupid - not that all of them have been doing either.

I don't care what is said, just as long as my Rays produce results this year....
I've been a Believer since '97!!!!

Crawford should watch out before Young throws a bat at him

February 23, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Definitely look out for the bat.

February 23, 2008  10:02 AM ET

I just hope it doesn't hit a certain lefty pitcher in the head. Wee all know he doesn't have much bat control or just plain ole control period

February 23, 2008  12:03 PM ET

Carl just go over there and "bitchslap" him and end this.

February 23, 2008  02:20 PM ET

Nice to have crybaby punks like Young and Dukes off the team.

Dukes is a POS and should be in prison.

February 23, 2008  03:21 PM ET

the Rays still have a team?? where have they been the past couple years? Go Twins!

February 23, 2008  04:08 PM ET

They've been a Triple A team, KG. I think they play in the International League.

February 23, 2008  04:13 PM ET

Maybe now some people will actually go to the Twins Rays games at the dome.

February 23, 2008  04:23 PM ET

Yeah maybe they can top 1,500 fans to show up at the dome this year to see if he does actually decide to throw a bat at him. Could get interesting there...

Carl can back up his words, I've seen the man play. I'd take him over just about any outfielder in the game today. I think the rays are gioing to move up in the standing this year. Not a prediction, I just see them as an improving team. They have speed, power, and pretty good defense. I know pitching is always a quesion with this team, but they are also imporved in that department.

By the way, I heard the marlins are going to go for a new ball park, don't know if that will help, but will sure make the fans who do come, comfortable.

February 24, 2008  12:57 AM ET

It's great to have the TB Rays around because all the other teams will be guaranteed not to be the lousiest team in the League!!!!!!!!
What a joke of an organization......I feel sorry for the fans.

February 24, 2008  02:51 AM ET

Tony from the city......I hope they move up in the standings this year!!.....they couldn't go any farther down in the standings.

Hey ulitmate cub fan.....remember when you guys were in the playoffs and could have won it but that fan down the 3rd base line in left field reached over and caught the ball?? That was great wasn't it?!! :)

February 24, 2008  06:29 AM ET

Actually K G, the Cub fans used Bartman as a scapegoat to keep the focus off of their SS who flubbed the groundball and their pitchers who all of a sudden couldn't get anybody out, which lead to what, a six run inning?

February 24, 2008  07:40 AM ET

'Yeah maybe they can top 1,500 fans to show up at the dome this year to see if he does actually decide to throw a bat at him. Could get interesting there...'

What a stupid thing to say...Twins averaged over 28,000 last year in home attendance...they weren't even in the bottom 3rd in baseball for team attendance...

But I guess Cubs fans have to talk smack when they can...cause can't talk smack about championships...

February 24, 2008  08:01 AM ET

Young won't be able to walk around like the disrespectful punk he was in Tampa Bay. Gardenhire won't let any Prima Donna's grow and has the support of management to back it up.

Maddon was too big on trying to be Delomin's Dad and not disrupt the phenom.

I hope Kaz drills Delmon in spring training.

February 24, 2008  08:04 AM ET

Who are the Rays?? Can we contract them already?? They are virtually worthless and are only in the league so that Boston & NY can smack em around!

February 25, 2008  12:20 AM ET

Crawford is the one that appears immature with his constant whining. Young is over it already and happy to get away from the Rays. Twins fans cant wait to watch the punk start hammerin homers in the dome.

Me thinks Crawford is just jealous that Young and Dukes got to be rid of the loser image and the Rays inept management.
