Bobby Ryan wants no part of Team USA apology

10:05 AM ET 01.04 | Bobby Ryan didn't change his tune after getting a Star Spangled sorry from Team USA Friday. Hours after a horrified Team USA GM David Poile issued a public apology to the Senators winger for comments about his intensity by Brian Burke, Ryan maintained he wants the whole incident behind him but has no interest in speaking to the Calgary president. Burke was quoted as saying: "He is not intense. That word is not in his vocabulary. It's never going to be in his vocabulary. He can't spell intense." Asked by the Ottawa Sun -- the only local newspaper on a conference call with reporters -- if he was upset the comments were public, Poile didn't mince his words. "I'm trying right now, if I can, to apologize to Bobby Ryan," said Poile. "If that was said about me or one of my players I would be very upset with this. I apologize as much as I can. I'm big on (growing the game). As far as anything to denigrate any player, that is not what any of us signed up for. This was just a little bit too much. For the umpteenth time I totally apologize to Bobby Ryan on behalf of our staff and Brian Burke, who was absolutely the biggest supporter of Bobby."

He's been quoted to saying that it was a mistake drafting him. Ofcourse the person who drafts him has to be his biggest supporter...just not forever.
Burke was probably just letting off some steam after being critisized for so long about it.
On the plus side though at least nobody is lying here. Bobby Ryan is soft, Bobby Ryan feels disrespected, Burke is gutless and Pollie is embarassed that Ryan had a reality check and hopes Nashville ticket buyers don't bail out on him.

Wrong supporter, Rocky:)

BB blows (one too many times - and should be sacked) - he thinks Bobby's sooo bad, that's why he was trying sooo hard to get him onto the Loafs when he was the king-pin there. Frankly, leaving Bobby Ryan off, is exactly the same as leaving Bobby Hull off - BU**SH** from a BU**SH**WHACKER. It's not as big a loss to Team US as not having Bishop, Schneider, and any of the Johnsons, Braun, Martinez, Matt Greene, Byfuglien, Jones, Trouba, Wisniewski, Yandle - and the way he's playing at present, especially Matt Niskanen

...oh yeah, and Toto as Coach. hee, hee.

Burke + Class = Jackass

I agree. In true American fashion ... Burke should be impeached!

If I were Ryan, i'd put on a clinic next time I play Calgary and give the finger up toward the GM box after every shift.

That's what I suggested yesterday. That's Ryan best revenge. A hat trick against the dismal Flames every time they play would be nice. Done!

If Bobby Ryan was good enough to put on a clinic every time he touched the ice then he would have been a consensus lock to make the team :-)

Letting off steam is not part of the job description for a gm. He made comments...on the record...speaking on behalf of USA hockey.

Anybody that chooses to maintain a working relationship with Burkie deserves exactly what they get. For the Flames I truly hope that they stay in the basement for a long-time to come and I hope team USA flames out early.

January 4, 2014  01:42 PM ET

and really...who was torching Burkie for picking up Ryan with the 2nd overall pick? Who chosen in the top 10 has really been remarkably better and should have been chosen over Ryan? Benoit Pouliot?? Gilbert Brule?? Brian Lee?? Luc Bourdon??

I've never been a Ryan fan per se, but in the top 10 only the 1st overall was clearly head and shoulders better. There's not even a point of making the argument one way or another regarding Price because it's a completely different question. Jack Johnson, Jack Skille and Devin Setoguchi are not better players than Bobby Ryan.

And the biiger question...who in Anaheim really gives enough of a damn to dog Burkie over it? Especially to the point that he now, 8 years later, needs to <blow off steam> over it? Christ...the man lived and worked in TORONTO...I don't think the <hockey media> of anaheim (if they exist) are what would put that man even further over the edge than he already is...

January 4, 2014  01:48 PM ET

After all this media attention I bet Ryan knows how to spell 'intense' now.

January 4, 2014  02:43 PM ET

Brian in Ottawa should send Burke the Doooshe a big thank You card. I anticipate Ottawa will have an already good player taking the ice with extra incentive the second half of this season

January 4, 2014  03:27 PM ET

I feel bad for all my Canadian friends. The Finns cleaned your clock at the WJHC. But, as bad as I feel for y'all, it looks good on that petulant ESS*OH*BEE you have for a coach. Brent Sutter takes a squad of super talented young men and thinks he's in the WHL and can muck his way to victory.

The WJHC is not the WHL, Mr. Sutter. Oh! And you should've never snubbed Darnell Nurse just because you're pissed at the Oilers for not hiring you as their coach.

If that's what he does and says about those he supports, I can only guess what he does and says about those he hates.

Gotta compliment everyone for being so consarned po-lite yesterday when I said that Team US might not make it past the groups - ha,ha - every team makes it past the groups - with the bottom eight playing off, to play the top four, who get a bye (how they decide #4 I ask ya, out of three groups - ye olde best second place - yeah right). Talk about maximizing the gate - so why only 12,000 seats and 7,000 seats - another Russ-Oly joke. Let the position jockeying, opponent choosing begin.
