07:27 AM ET 01.06 | Owning an NFL franchise is an expensive game, but things are especially pricey for Browns owner Jimmy Haslam. A year prior [to firing Rob Chudzinski,] Haslam decided to part with team president Mike Holmgren, general manager Tom Heckert, coach Pat Shurmur and their staffs as well, a move that several sources have estimated at having cost him roughly $30-million in all. Firing Chudzinski, and letting go of high-priced coordinators Norv Turner and likely Ray Horton, will likely cost another $20 million, sources said. ... [The] sources agreed that ultimately the moves Haslam will make between the end of the 2012 season -- when he let go of the Holmgren regime -- through the hiring of this new staff will amount to a $50 million commitment. Even by NFL standards, that's a fairly staggering number.

Give past experience in Cleveland, the mess probably won't get cleaned up with the next hire, so this number is going to increase.

The Browns may be another team where the owner is the biggest problem.

Or maybe "former" Steelers fan (and minority owner) Jimmy Haslam is still working to keep the Steelers out of the basement.

Unbelievable. This is no way to run a business. Maybe we need to open up the books to see what kind of profits they get and tax them a little more. Maybe then they will quit it with this kind of foolishness.

Haslan needs to be put behind prison bars. This guy not only commits fraud, he is a fraud.

NFL teams are non profit.

Just another way they can screw the taxpayers.

Haslan is running for " Most Hated Owner in the NFL " . Any other suggestions ?

Obviously you have never fueled up a semi. 400 - 600 gallons a pop and $4 bucks a gallon. $50 million bucks won't make him lose any sleep. As long as those trucks are lined up around the fuel island Haslam has no problem.

I don't think so. The NFL itself is non-profit, but the teams are private corporations, mostly.

Browns fans, welcome to the "we hate our meddlesome owner club". Settle down, enjoy the misery.

January 6, 2014  09:41 AM ET

The Browns have the worst uniforms in the NFL , bad football team on the field, and now you have a AFC want a be like JJ owner who thinks he knows more than professional people about running a NFL franchise. Also folks his brother is Governor of Tennessee.
