'Last-ditch effort' for Lopez?

07:33 AM ET 01.06 | At least for some, the names of two other big men come to mind when thinking of Brook Lopez and his recent surgery: Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Yao Ming. The surgeries that Yao, Ilgauskas and Lopez have all had were slightly different. A specialist could probably explain in great detail the facets of the procedures and differences in the bones and the alignment of the heel and ankle, etc. But they also were all the same. ... The Nets, who have $60 million invested in Lopez, are not saying that. They are defensive and cautious, and they should be. "He had surgery. It was successful. And then he'll recover and be back playing," Nets general manager Billy King said. "We can sit here and say, 'last-ditch effort' or whatever, he had surgery. They said it's gonna be a successful recovery."

The End Is Near, Bro.

He had a promising career but now he'll be just like those big men.

January 6, 2014  08:45 AM ET

Its too bad.

Yeah it is not looking good for Lopez maybe he will end up closer to big Z instead of Yao. He was probably the 2nd best center in the league.

No way.....guy couldn't rebound.

A center who can't rebound, can't be the "2nd best center in the league".

The surgery was successful to heal and recovery not to guard against future injury.

Ok he doesn't rebound as well as he should but I still would place him as the 2nd best in the league. Offense and defense, and not turnover prone, and can hit FT's if fouled. The only arguement I can make above him is Cousins because of his sheer bully ball techniques, and probably Gasol but offense can not be ran through Gasol but he is a good passer.

MY list

1. Howard
2. Lopez Hurt but oh well he was here to me
3. Cousins
4. Gasol Hurt but oh well
5. Hibbert
6. Noah

I would put Al Horford over Cousins.

I like Hibbert defensively but he is a part time force offensively. Could be scheme in Indy but I don't trust Hibbert

I hear you.

I would rate the centers based on impact.
None of them currently are impact guys where you can write down 20-10
Night after night...and none of them are really guys that you want taking that last shot of the game

Defensively, they are impactful, but its a strange time for bigs

Howard, Hibbert, Marc Gasol, Big Al, Demarcus, and Pekovic. The Orlando and Toronto centers are not too bad also...

whats funny is according to the NBA AS game (and probably the dream of the NBA front office for the regular season if they could) there is no such thing as a center anymore
