07:34 AM ET 01.06 | Just about a month out from the All-Star Game, Portland point guard Damian Lillard earned an endorsement from none other than Kobe Bryant on Sunday. "I probably won't be able to come back (to the Lakers) soon enough to be able to make my stamp or be able to make my mark on a game," Bryant told reporters before the Lakers faced the Denver Nuggets. "So my advice would be to focus on younger players, the Damian Lillards of the world, because they're more than deserving to be out there and playing that weekend." Bryant, who holds the NBA record for most consecutive All-Star appearances with 15, was the leading vote getter (723,031 votes) among backcourt players from the Western Conference in the most recent returns. Lillard was eighth with 105,880 fan votes.

Classy comments by Kobe. I completely agree , and I think most people have raised questions about how the allstars are picked for years. I remember one year Yao Ming made it and he hadn't played at all yet that year.

Kobe being gratuitous, never thought I would be saying that. Now I'll probably end up voting for him. lol

I'll express my appreciation for Kobe's comment before everyone accuses him of having other motives...

January 6, 2014  08:36 AM ET

Nice gesture by Kobe but it won't mean much because he'll probably get more votes now. He should have followed Kendall Marshall on Tweeter instead so that he'll feel more welcome and wanted. I think he should suggest that if Lillard don't get in then he would forfeit his spot for Lillard.

Agree....

The as game is for kids and they pick popular names.....
And if that's who they are targeting? Whatever....I don't watch any way

But stern/silver should not even put a player on the ballot if they haven't played, say 75% of the games in the 1st part of the season.

Wow what Kobe did they interview?

Great win by your Knicks JGB. They're coming round the mountain and playing great while the Mavs are really stinking it up now...

Good move by Kobe, the all-star game is for the fans and fans love Kobe whether he has played much at all. I mean Lin is fourth in west guards, Rose is 3rd for east guards. I actually think one of Evan Turner and Thad Young should actually get a reserve spot as well as a Raptor leaning towards DeRozan. The coaches have to pick somebody lol. Starters I see based off fans:

West
G: Kobe
G: Curry/Harden/Lillard depends on coach but one will be CP3 replacement
F: Griffin
F: Durant
F: Howard

East

G:Wade
G: Kyrie
F: James
F: George
F: Melo

It doesn't matter what he says, the people will still vote for him, he will just need to do what about 75% of the NFL pro bowlers do and bow out and get replaced.

They should let him choose his replacement, now that would be classy.......

Well.....consider that at the time the ballot is released, the teams have only played about 5 or 6 games......

Kobe should not receive votes; he only played 6 games this season due to injuries. I don't understand why fans will vote for a guy whom has not participated. Understanding that he's a very special player; that should not be the criterior for selection; his performance should be what gets him selected and the guy Kobe named (Lillard) is the logical choice. This goes back to Magic Johnson and some others; if you want to symbolize him then identify another voting criterior.

it doesn't matter the all-star game is a joke
