Auburn fueled by disappointment

07:53 AM ET 01.06 | At long last, college football's title game has arrived for Auburn. Planted squarely in the middle of this atmosphere, treated like kings, the Tigers seem so many miles away from where this season started, birthed in the muck and haze and overcast skies of a lost season. For a moment, it's easy to forget that 3-9 disaster. Except that the Tigers themselves have each taken pieces, little reminders of how far they've come, markers to make sure it wouldn't happen again. At this time last year, with bowl games on their TVs, the Tigers had all the motivation they needed. "I was actually at home, sitting on my couch, thinking I never want what happened to ever happen again," Auburn tight end C.J. Uzomah said. "Never again" is kind of the mantra we took on, a few of us were saying it."

Auburn should be fueled by disappointment in their mediocre education standing.

If Auburn can win tonight's championship game despite Vegas given them little chance of doing so, the SEC again would prove why they are the dominate conference in college football going 10-2 in bowl games.

True that

January 6, 2014  11:04 AM ET

McCarron was eating Auburn up at the end and would easily have won in OT. The absurd field goal was return was not about the team. And who was the rescued loser in the reception of the underthrown, desperation last-ditch pass that took the game away from the manifestly better team, Missouri? Auburn looked good against Alabama at the end, but gracious! In retrospect, whom did Alabama actually beat? They're entitled to enjoy their success, but this is true hype.

And, if not....The SEC has had a disappointing bowl effert. Despite going 9-3 overall, the 0-2 in BCS games far over-shadows the overall record.
