Girardi on the block yet?

07:56 AM ET 01.06 | Just how important is Dan Girardi in New York? You can make the case pretty darn easily the Rangers would have more trouble replacing [Girardi] than anyone on their team. ... But here's the conundrum regarding Girardi. If he is that valuable to the Rangers, who enter Monday's match at the Garden against the Blue Jackets having won fewer than half their games (21-20-2), how valuable might he be as a rental to legitimate Stanley Cup contenders such as Boston, Anaheim, Los Angeles and San Jose? Thus, how much more value as a trade chip, rather than as a first-pair defenseman, might Girardi bring to a Ranger organization that doesn't appear close to a championship and all but certainly will have to undertake a significant reload over the next offseason or two?

Sorry Harry and Danny. I didn't read your posts before commenting. Good thing piling on isn't an infraction on FN.

Hey, more the merrier! Unless you actually like that team.

*sobs*

LLS - BTW how are you going to replace that 5.25 mil 3 goal scorer?

January 6, 2014  10:22 AM ET

I'd flip him. He is making 3,325,000 this year and with Phaneuf as a comp. he easily gets $5 mil per yr. Problem Sather has is the coach. You went from Torts' zone type d coverage resp. where Girardi looked like a stud to AV's man where he gets in over his head. The first goal against the Pens was all him, he coughed the puck up right onto the tape of a Pens player. He looks better of late, but that is because Staal is back and he is getting more minutes paired with McD.

Personnel aside, you really have to question this team under AV. This team cant stay above .500, has severe consistency issues and has the performance of a pendulum. You get run out of the Consol Energy by a severly banged up Pens team then come back the next night and lay it on the Leafs in Toronto. There is no identity. Sather panicks with Dorsett out and goes and gets that punk Carcillo. Really???

Not to pick on the Rags, but from 250 miles north it looks like Lundqvist carried that team for a few year while Torts was running the bench and now that he is having an off year the real talent level is exposed.

true. What talent?
