07:31 AM ET 01.07 | What little difference a year has made in Cinci. Just like last winter, the Reds wouldn't mind locking up starting pitcher Homer Bailey long term. And just like last winter, it will be easier said than done. Bailey, a 27-year-old power right-hander with two no-hitters on his resume, is third-year arbitration eligible and can become a first-time free agent after the 2014 season. One of six remaining Reds eligible for arbitration this offseason, Bailey made $5.35 million in 2013. There were contract talks with Bailey's representatives before the holidays. "He would be probably the one guy that's going to be the most difficult because of how well he's done and where he's at in this service class," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. "Young pitchers are getting quite a bit."

Cincy will most likely trade Baily in the next month or so for a lead-off hitter to take Choo's place if they can .

Why do I get the feeling that Jocketty gets totally blottoed at the GM meetings and sits in a dark corner complaining to the bartender about how much #$*)ing money those stupid kids make?

Jocketty has put himself in a bad spot - not making a deal yet to improve his ball club, wanted to move Phillips with no takers, and the Cardinals have made improvements to their club for the upcoming season.

Hillbilly I thought Hamilton was going to be your lead off hitter and center fielder for the upcoming season.
