07:37 AM ET 01.07 | Unlike in the Iron Bowl, this time, it wasn't meant to be for Chris Davis, who was unable to deliver in the final minute and Florida State pulled off a 34-31 victory Monday night at the Rose Bowl. The senior was called for a crucial pass interference on third-and-8 at the 10, and was later unable to knock the ball loose on an acrobatic 2-yard catch by Kelvin Benjamin on the game-winning touchdown with 13 seconds remaining. "I don't know what happened," Davis said on the pass interference call. "I thought it was good defense, but I guess the ref didn't think the same." ... On Monday he was credited with a fumble on a punt, and the Seminoles kicked away from him and toward the other returner on kickoffs. "They made a play, we didn't," Davis said. "That's what it all comes down to."

The old system goes out in style. The algorithms did get it right though, the two best teams went at it. Congrats to both teams. FSU is number one without question.

You were draped all over the guy. It was clear PI. There were several other calls your team got away with.

Wonderful football game... great drama throughout and a terrific finish.

Now - on to playoffs!

Congrats to EWO and the Noles, you guys pulled it out in the last minute.

OK the Headline Reads Davis Stands Up After Crucial Penalty? How is saying "I thought it was good defense, but I guess the ref didn't think the same" standing up?! He is taking no responsibility and saying it was not a penalty! I watched the game as a fan of neither team as my team loyalties lie in the BIG 10 and it was a blatant and obvious pass interference call. Come on young man have the guts and integrity to own up to it and stop blaming the officials.

Yes the old system is now history.....but with the new system we will have the same issues but atleast now now it won't come down to just 2 teams - be interesting to see how they pick and seed the play-off teams and no matter how its done there will be controversy.

Not as sure as you are 50. I'd still like to see the Sparty/FSU game.

Now that the season is finished, if this were next year, which four teams are in the playoffs?

The final BCS poll would have FSU, Auburn, Michigan State and South Carolina.

A Gump fan would definitely know about getting calls.

What was MSU ranked in the BCS before the bowl games started?

January 7, 2014  08:53 AM ET

Aubie impressed me...

I thought FSU was much better than them.

Mason was the best player on the field

Someone better at Go Ogle than me is gonna have to check that Hippy. I tried...couldn't find it.

I think it was something like Sparty at 5 and Stanford at 6 or 7.

That would be a good one too. Have to wonder who the four teams would have been this year in a playoff format. I agree with Hillbilly though, number 5 team and 6 and who knows who will always have an argument.

That was my thoughts...so MSU would not have been included in the playoff.

Aubie's defense was much better last night than they had shown the rest of the year IMHO. Either the month long prep helped them, they were actually better than their stats showed, or the FSU offense was not as good as advertised.

I thought Edwards was the best player last night.

Not using polls only they wouldn't have been. My understanding is the committee won't have to bow down to the polls though.

Sure they will. They would with 8 as well. However, the separation between contenders and pretenders seems to become more evident at 8 which is what I wanted the number to be. JMO
