Miami coach won't favor son

Randy Shannon once said he never wanted his son to play football for him. He still doesn't -- and he wants to make sure nobody thinks Xavier Shannon will be receiving special treatment now that he's a Hurricane. Shannon, a 6-1, 298-pound offensive lineman, started 29 games for FIU (including 27 in a row) before he informed FIU coach Mario Cristobal in January he was leaving the program and heading to UM. After receiving an NCAA waiver to play this season, according to UM's sports information department, Shannon is expected to compete with freshman Tyler Horne and sophomore A.J. Trump for the starting job at center. Shannon saved his most intense comments for his own flesh and blood. ''I don't talk to him. I don't say much to him at all,'' said Shannon, who said his son will play for UM only because offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland and recruiting coordinator Clint Hurtt insisted.

I feel sorry for the kid; I guess he wants to be part of the rebirth of Hurrican football. Afterall his Dad played for the 'Canes as well.

6'1, 298 pounds??? He must have taken after his mother.

Heheh, nice juice boy.

If the kid's got talent, then let him play. His true talent will be put to the test at the U b/c FIU ain't a good program.

If he's talented enough he will play despite what his father says.

Well he;s wasting a year having to sit out to go play with dad and he's got no guarantee he'll even start so why leave a school your playing at that can get you to the NFL

Hmm I'm a huge Hurricanes football fan, he better get the program turned around quickly... I was embarrassed the past 2 years!
