Roger Clemens may be backpedaling on his long-time stance that he never attended a 1998 party at Jose Canseco's house. In the wake of the Daily News' report Friday that a photograph exists of Clemens posing with a young man at Canseco's Florida home - a photo said to have been taken on June 9, 1998 - the Rocket's attorney issued a statement that seems to suggest Clemens may have attended the party after all. "Roger was playing golf at the time of the party, and has stated that he may have stopped by the Canseco house after playing golf before heading to the ballpark for the game," read Rusty Hardin's statement.

Clemens gets burned again.
Now he is misknowledged of his own whereabouts. He is a sad, sad story.

February 23, 2008  08:28 AM ET

When did he state that he may have stopped by? It says he "has stated," past tense. When? Do we all misremember that statement never being out there?

February 23, 2008  08:44 AM ET

I'll bet he doesn't misremeber his coming prison stint.

February 23, 2008  08:49 AM ET

he did mention in his time in front of congress that "he may have stopped long enough to drop people off" I do remember that but if you had time to take pictures with people at the party it doesn't sound like he just "dropped people off." In his statement to the committee on TV he said he was on his way to the ballpark. Apparently he "misremembers" having his mug taken with one of his fans that is now coming back to burn him. DOH!!!!

February 23, 2008  09:07 AM ET

golf then party then game. sounds like his priorities are about right.

good thing Piazza stayed clear of 'roid rage.

February 23, 2008  09:07 AM ET

Hardin's an idiot. You don't come out that strongly when there are hundreds of potential witnesses who can destroy your story. Roger need to get a new lawyer before he winds up in prison.

The way he's going, I see Roger in prison by next year.

February 23, 2008  09:18 AM ET

So who is destroying the other worse here? Is Hardin destroying Clemens worse than Clemens is destroying Hardin? I've never been to Texas. I don't know any native Texans personally. So I cannot pigeonhole the whole state on these two. But if these two maverick morons are the typical Texan males (along with the Bush males), I fear for those states and Mexico that border the Lone Star State.

Makes all thoes Republican Senators look like idiots after emphatically pushing this issue.

February 23, 2008  09:23 AM ET

Hey, can we do that whole thing in front of congress again? I just remembered something about taking steroids.

Okay i have a few questions. If these pictures prove to be real from that day then:
1) Is McNamee the only person telling the truth these days? Becasue if these pictures prove to be true it seems Canseco, Clemens , et. al., are stone cold liars or misremember tons of stuff that actually seems to have happened.
2) If these pictures are verifed as from being take on that day then I have to know from Clemens this: How much did you donate to Canseco's future economic endeavors?
3) If these pictures are verified as real then why did Clemens' lawyer, Hardin, when told of their existence let Clemens spout off the way he did before Congress and we the people?
4) and then lastly, I think McNamee is a low life in his own right, but I think if these pictures can be verified as having been taken on the day in question then those Congresspeople who called McNamee a lair in so far as his tetimony given before Congress and in his deposition now owe the man a very big apology.

And my final thought is, please, Congress, if all you are going to do is huff and puff, accomplishing absolutely nothing but getting your pictures in the funny papers and on the six o'clock news then leave criminal investigations to the DOJ.

February 23, 2008  09:44 AM ET

Hey ROIDGER I just misremembered how much of a FRAUDGER you are

February 23, 2008  09:54 AM ET

4192,

What Congress has done is to accomodate Clemen's request to be on a public podium to express his innocence.
What Roger has done is to make additonal statements (this time under oath to Congress) that can be used against him in a Justice Dept court of law.
This is really not a big deal, lying to Congress at max is 5 years, he'll do 6 months as a celebrity conviction case...
What it really is is a tremendous waste of time and resources in an attempt to satisfy a MLB baseball star's enormous ego....
The pictures will just add to more evidence. Gee, ya think the DOJ will ask people who were at the party to testify under oath about Roger's attendance at the party?
"Sir, under oath and penalty of perjury, did you see Roger Clemens at Jose Canseco's party, yes or no?"
Again, Roger has mistakenly taken the route of establishign his innocence in a very foolish and stupid way. He has left himself, his wife and all of his friends and admirers out to dry with his arrogance anf stupidity..

February 23, 2008  10:05 AM ET

Now come on everyone, you know as well as Roger and Rusty do, that the photo was obviously faked in an effort to frame Roger. The boy to whom the picture belongs actually worked for Brian McNamee who mistrusted Roger even then..years before this whole mess hit the fan. If you ask "ol' Rusty Hardin- Texas Reject", this is just a huge conspiracy to destroy Roger Clemens, his legacy and family. If everyone would have looked the other way, Roidger would not have had to throw his wife under the bus...

February 23, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Senators that are made to look stupid, often return the favor. That's an old proverb from the Kingdom of Zwitek.

If this wasn't headed to DoJ, you can expect that it will soon.

February 23, 2008  10:20 AM ET

maybe Rocket will get a Mulligan?

It will be pretty funny if the pic has him holding a cocktail in his hand, yeah, yeah, i just stopped by to drop some people off.....

February 23, 2008  10:28 AM ET

and nobody is talking about any legal consequences to Canseco, who submitted a sworn deposition that Clemens was not at that party........

February 23, 2008  10:43 AM ET

Well, his testimony mentions that he didn't attend the BBQ, but it doesn't say he wasn't at his house at some point.

Nowhere in his affidavit does it mention that Clemens never appeared at his house that day. He mentions that he found out later that Clemens had a Golf engagement.

It does not claim that Rocket never appeared. It says he didn't attend the bbq.

He does claim that McNamee never gave him Anadrol50, and that Rocket never spoke about juicing and winning two Cy Youngs in his presence.

I don't see anything in his affidavit that could be untrue really. I think it was a nice dance actually. I wish I could find my copy of Juiced so I could recall what Jose said about Rocket in his book.

February 23, 2008  10:52 AM ET

my mistake then, i caught the part during the congress hearings where i thought i heard them say, Canseco had submitted a sworn testimony that he was not at his house that day, and not specifiaclly he did not attend the BBQ.

Does anyone know if that is avail anywhere online ?

Hey Roger,
I hate to break it to you, but your turning out to be your own worst enemy. Nobody could do the damage to your reputation that you are doing yourself.
You know who's going to be one of the biggest losers in this steroid era... YOU, because you denied it so vehemently only to have this avalanch of evidence coming down proving your a lier and a cheat.
Again, you got the most horrible legal advice in the history of mankind. By the way, your wife shooting roids just proves to me you two really were ment for each other you freakin' LOSER !
