07:26 AM ET 01.09 | Though a report earlier this week indicated otherwise, it seems the chances of the Indians signing Bobby Abreu are unlikely. Unless, of course, they're trying to corner the market on 40-year-old, left-handed hitting designated hitters. They already have one in Jason Giambi. ... The Indians have watched Abreu play winter ball in Venezuela. They have also talked to his agents, but it's unlikely things will proceed beyond that. Still, the Indians have not completely shut the door. They've been impressed with the way Abreu has swung the bat this winter and feel his conditioning has improved. Should Giambi, who will come to camp on a minor league deal in February, not be able to fill the role he did last year, Abreu could be an option.

It would be fun if they signed Abreu and forced him to play the OF just so we could watch him break out in tics and hives when he got within 20 feet of a wall.
