07:31 AM ET 01.09 | Penn State's coaching search may have reached its conclusion. Two sources close to Penn State's program confirmed to The Times-Tribune late Wednesday night that Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin was offered the head coaching position during an hours-long meeting with the university's search committee in Destin, Fla. Both sources, who spoke on conditions of anonymity because no official announcement had been made, said Franklin is expected to either accept or reject the job [Thursday]. The slick Commodores coach, who guided the longtime SEC doormats to a second consecutive nine-win season for the first time in history this past season, began the day with reported plans to interview with the Washington Redskins for their head coaching vacancy.

Expected to accept or reject? Wow really stepping out on a limb there "reliable source"

That's why he known as "reliable"

he knows the time is now. He has a lot of starting seniors that he'll lose and it's all downhill. He's hit the Vandy ceiling. If I was him I'd turn it into a better job right now too.

He should stay at Vandy rather then go up to PSU and have to deal with the "Paterno people".

+1

Time to use that stepping-stone aspect of Vandy to his advantage.

I still think he has at least one more year to do so.....not sure he won't stick around in Nashville for one more season and see if something better isn't available next year.

I think so too. When you look at his wins not all that impressive. Still for Vandy he did a really good job.

Not his fault UF and UTk sucks. And he did upgrade their facilities and was getting better recruits.

UTk and UF will still suck next year as well. As they sucked, SCe and UGA replaced them.

USC should have hired him instead of Sark

Won his bowl games, too, I believe. He's taken Vandy to higher places than any Vandy coach before, in my opinion.

He did what Fulmer did. Fulmer took advantage of the entire league except for UF sucking.

No way VFH. The SEC hasn't been taken advantage of for generations.

Agree but the quality teams he did play and that you want him to beat to see if he has it as a coach he didn't. But again Vandy. PSU should recruit better players for him.

Yeah, but is PSU "a better job" under the circumstances? Lot of mess still to deal with.

I agree he would get better talent at PSU once the sanctions are done and he can get a full 25. PA always have talent plus his ties to the DC/VA area.

Even the games they lost, Vandy was competitive considering the disadvantage.

Will see how he will do if he makes the jump.

Guess I was wrong.....reports are starting that he took the job.
