Tension escalates in Toronto

07:35 AM ET 01.09 | The question of who's No. 1 has flared up again in Toronto. Some raw nerves are being exposed as the Maple Leafs continue to face scrutiny over their goalie rotation amid the failure of either Jonathan Bernier or James Reimer to establish dominance as the No. 1 netminder. Without a clear No. 1, no matter how well Bernier or Reimer have played, it was coach Randy Carlyle's pattern to alternate them until recently. However, if either goalie stepped up as a clear No. 1, it would do a couple of valuable things for the Leafs: a good performance would be rewarded with more starts, and that in turn could lead to a hot streak. Bernier was brought here from the Los Angeles Kings in the off-season to be the No. 1 goalie following Reimer's implosion in Game 7 of last spring's Stanley Cup playoff series against Boston.

Isn't the answer obvious that they're both number 2?

Trade both your problems to Edmonton: Bernier and Reimer for Bryzgalov and Dubnyk! :-)

Know what makes both goalies look like crap? Bad defence.

Are you speaking ill of your $6.5 mill per Captain?

The last line of the article, where it talked about Reimer's implosion in game 7. That looked more like a team effort to me.

Maybe the team really does suck? Too bad for them. One of these goalies could bring some help if traded.

It's a team effort Danny.

Without a clear No. 1, you have two number 2s:)

That shot deflected off of Dion's stick. It was a great deflection. To bad it was on his own team. I give Bernier a pass on that one b/c a goalie never expects/prepares for a clear shot from center ice to change direction. That goal is on Dion.

Are you saying Canuck hasn't come out of the closet yet?

Hence the team effort. And the deflection was out far enough that Bernier should have picked it up.

I can't watch youtube videos at work, but I am assuming that's the Trapezoid goal. Again thats a tough situation. Do you take the 2 minute penalty or leave it and get back in the net. That hesitation is what messed him up.

Also, I am Islanders fan. So I am happy about all of these mess ups. But over the summer I wanted the Isles to get either Schnider or Bernier.
