07:29 AM ET 01.10 | A month removed from ascending to baseball's Hall of Fame, Tony La Russa may rise to the top of another organization. La Russa is on the Seattle Mariners' short list of candidates to replace outgoing president Chuck Armstrong, two baseball officials with knowledge of the search told USA TODAY Sports. They spoke on the condition of anonymity since the search process is ongoing. Mariners CEO Howard Lincoln would neither confirm nor deny La Russa's candidacy, but divulged that the interview process began this week with two candidates within the Mariners' organization. If Lincoln and the Mariners board of directors believe one of the internal candidates are suited for the job, they won't even bother looking to La Russa or someone outside the organization.

Damn, that picture of Tony always scares the hell out of me. You know he's got a rusty machete or bloody axe behind his back there.

Reminds me of the movie Dracula where Gary Oldman is lurking in the shadows.

Why bother is right, La Russa is not going to take over a ball club with no chance of winning in his life time.

It's closer than St. Louis was. Maybe the marriage works better that way.

I ran into LaRussa at the SF airport while he was managing the Cards, he had an off day between series and wanted to chill at home if only for one day. He flew a hell of a long way there and back just for a brief time at his house, and he also chose a really ugly Monte Carlo rental car (I figured he'd get a luxury car).

I've always had the same thought. With all the thousands of pictures of LaRussa available on the net, why do they only use this one?
