Second thoughts for Franklin?

07:36 AM ET 01.10 | And, so, at Vandy, they wait. The as yet to be official conclusion of the Penn State coaching search entered new territory Thursday, albeit still non-definitive territory, surrounding Vanderbilt coach James Franklin, who appears to be the university's top candidate. University spokeswoman Lisa Powers confirmed the recently created compensation committee of Penn State's board is scheduled to meet in a closed session at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, though she would not identify whose contract would be examined. "The person whose contract is being reviewed has not been publicly identified at this time," she said in an email. "A brief public session will follow at 9 a.m." The panel does not hire, but its duties include setting pay for top university officials.

Will Vandy get in a bidding war?

January 10, 2014  08:33 AM ET

Compensation for these high profile positions is often two pronged. One is the financial part...or "Can we actually afford it?" or "How do we pay for it?" The other prong is often more problematic for those universities that have the resources to take care of the first. And that second prong is "What is the public relations damage...even if we do have the resources to pay that much?"

Stay at Vandy, right now your team is the Crown Jewel of TN, what more do you want, and you can beat the gators and dawgs and if you learn to beat SOS then you will be East Champs.

Possible but not probable, IMO.

i don't think this is as clear cut as it seems. Penn State is still in image recovery mode. Hiring a coach who has 3-4 current players accused of sexual misconduct cannot be sitting when with any college, especially Penn State. Not blaming the coach without the facts, not even sure if he recruited them, if they are guilty, or whatever, but the mere perception of this has got to give at Penn state folks some pause on hiring him.

They can, but will they?

I dunno, their admin has been a little weird in their decisions in the past, such as ditching the entire Athletic Dept. Just not sure what those guys will decide to do.

I think they have to...

Look at what Franklin got them to do, regarding newer updated facilities. I am sure they realize its not easy to win there.

At least make him turn you down. Long term, PSU is probably easier to win at and they have way more fan support.

Apparently, the buyout that would be required to get Franklin out of his contract with Vanderbilt is tied to a $31 million indoor practice facility.

If Franklin was to leave Vanderbilt, the team that brings him on board would be forced to pay off the remainder of the project.

If this is true.. lol.... Vandy is slick

Vandy schmandy.

The question for Franklin is not about staying at Vandy. It's this job now or another one later? Take the other one later, James.
