07:39 AM ET 01.10 | Logan Couture may be on the shelf, but the Sharks aren't suffering for star power. That was on full display in the 4-1 home win over the Red Wings on Thursday night. Joe Pavelski had two goals, Joe Thornton tallied two assists to add to his league-leading total, and Dan Boyle and Andrew Desjardins also had markers in a relatively painless victory over Detroit. The Sharks improved to 16-1-3 at SAP Center. ... Some chippy play ensued late in the game. Tyler Kennedy was called for slashing Danny DeKeyser and then fought Kyle Quincey with five minutes left. Later, Tommy Wingels and Todd Bertuzzi engaged in a scrum behind the net, and Bertuzzi threw his helmet in Wingels' direction after the linesmen split them up. Scott Hannan and Danny Cleary fought with less than two minutes to go.

I'm hoping this is the aha moment for the Wings. It happened last year with only a handful of games left in the season and they were outside of the playoff cutoff.

The days of the powerhouse Wings were buried the moment Lidstrom retired; no longer do teams fear them. Yet, the mindset of many players on this team seems to be that that they are still a powerhouse and can win on talent alone. They need more fight and more urgency. They need a greater willingness to battle in the dirty areas of the ice and get ugly goals.

Bertuzzi lost his mind? Whodathunkit.

He's still staying in character after all these years.

Me for one. Losing something that small is like losing a contact.

At least he didn't whip out his snake.

I like Bert. Once he left V Town.

Sharks always deserve something like this. Move along.

Hopefully. They've still got a tough 2/3 of their Cali trip to go. Tatar the only goal last night; early in the year it seemed only Nyquist was scoring, now it's Tatar. The rest of the guys need to pick it up for sweet Yosemite Sam's sake.

Throwing your helmet at another penalty should be a new penalty, two minutes for having a hissy fit.

They looked ready to play in the 1st, they score, and then.....

Nice to see Tyler Kennedy contributing to the San Jose cause. Slashing eh? Wonder where he got that from? hmmmmmm

Had Tootoo been in the lineup, things would have been different. Asking an old Bert to stand up for the Wings isn't going to scare anyone.

Fix: I meant throwing your helmet at another "player". I just got a 5-minute major and game misconduct for posting an incoherent message.

So should dropping your mitts and then not fighting.

Just curious everyone talks about taking the bs staged fights out of hockey or guys wanting to fight on clean hits......any thoughts on the other nights hit by Kreider on Tyutin??? And then Dubi chasing down Kreider and not throwing down???

That was the 5 seconds of the game I missed, but I hear it wasn't a dirty hit at all. In fact, Columbus' people even said he (tyutin) wasn't hurt because of krieder...

Yup, Dubinsky drops gloves skates around chasing Kreider and gets two minutes for roughing.

Tootoo would have been a good addition in that game... I think Bert can still throw a few punches but he's long in the tooth to be doing that anymore...and who else they got...nobody that can fight... RP-29 is right....they need a couple players that can get down and dirty ..rough it up and not take people pushing you around...I'm not saying get goons...but they need some grit.

Too bad it was against the wrong team. Let those sleepy pussycats lie. Mind you, they'll fall asleep again just in time for the playoffs.
