09:59 AM ET 01.10 | Former New England Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel is returning to the NFL. After spending some time in Columbus, Ohio, as a member of Urban Meyer's coaching staff with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Vrabel will be taking his talents to Houston, where he will be the linebackers coach for the Houston Texans. In Houston, Vrabel will work under first-year head coach Bill O'Brien, who served as the Patriots offensive coordinator when Vrabel was a linebacker for the team.

I really liked this guy as a player. Trading him to KC as part of the Matt Cassel deal was a mistake for the Patriots.

I liked him too, but his best years were behind him, and his cap number would have been over $4M if they had kept him for one more year.

Can he teach Brian Cushing how to not take a cheap shot hit that wrecks his knee and knocks him out for the season?

Nice to have Mike back in the NFL. Missed him when he was traded to K.C.

Good for him. Like to see him climb the coaching ladder. By all accounts, a stellar person (football and otherwise). And from what I saw, he was the epitome of a team player. Wish him well.

But he'd also have to teach him not to take PEDs.

That falls under the "chewing gum and walking" analogy when it comes to USC-alum Cushing.

Indeed. He'll be a future HC candidate sooner than later.
