10:49 AM ET 01.12 | What if Andrew Wiggins isn't the next great basketball superstar? What if the kid's up-and-down freshman year at Kansas is who he is and what he is? Was all the major media hype just that? That's certainly a question that's being and debated asked over and over again both in college basketball circles and the NBA? "Right now, Andrew Wiggins is a victim of his own hype," a voice close to college basketball told me. "It's almost been a marketing setup. He was advertised and packaged as being one thing and maybe he isn't that or maybe he can't be that. He's a good player and right now an inconsistent player. Will he mature into a great player? I don't think anyone knows that answer right now."

which is why the 1 year rule works well....
it can weed out some 'busts' by getting a real view of them,
not just against high school children
(not saying he is/will be a bust)

they should make it 2-3 years.

No he's a victim of ESPN's hype ... and SI's hype ... and so on and so on.

Anyone who thinks college sophomores are ready for the NBA are seriously deluded. I don't give a hoot how ability they've displayed through what ... 20 games? The only way they're "ready" is because it's a watered down league. Period. Woo hoo another can't miss prospect.

I'd have to agree with you and your ability to point out the obvious.

Although I'm assuming you meant to hit 'report abuse'
