ND's Atkinson made the wrong choice

07:34 AM ET 01.13 | When it comes time for the NFL draft, George Atkinson III, the former Notre Dame running back, may wind up wondering if he made the right call. Overall, Atkinson should not have declared for the draft. The problem was that he alienated the Notre Dame coaching staff and was suspended for their Bowl game. The report was that Atkinson was suspended because of texting during the team pregame meal, but according to sources, there was a lot more to it than that. If he had stayed at Notre Dame for the 2014 season, he may not been more than the fourth back. With his speed and return ability, Atkinson may get drafted, but he doesn't have the skills to be much more than a kickoff returner. Because of his poor hands and blocking, he can't be trusted as a running back.

Wow, you don't often see an article running a guy down like this. Odd, for sure.

The kid did not produce when given the opportunity as a running back, younger guys were pushing him aside, he developed a sulking attitude, and the coaches decided to deal with it.
They did, so now he quits. He'll realize some day how bad a decision he is making.

It sure did. Some choice, they say he would not play at ND next year and he probably will not in the NFL. The old " get your degree " thing is not what it used to be. I suppose he still can, there or somewhere if he wants.

Odd? Perhaps...but there is a valuable lesson here, for those who pay attention.

This kid was offered a full ride, to a top-flight academic institution. A scholarship should not be viewed as a 2-4 year football vacation, and more kids should realize that.

STAY IN SCHOOL!

No doubt about it.

Is it September yet?

Typical Notre Dame "students". They're recruited to win football games and they all leave in 3 years if they don't get kicked out of school or jailed first. Whoever said they were an educational institution first, never followed the facts of what's going there. Just read T&R to learn the truth!

More than 50% of their "stars" of the last few years have left without graduating. So put that in your fact pipe and smoke it.

Golden Tate
Jimmy Clausen
That running back
this running back
Tuit
Nikias
the other guy
Shaq Evans
Vanderdoes
Fauria
Dayne Crist
There would be more but they know they won't get drafted or get interest from another school so they stay in ND. Like Tommy Rees and Dok Hendrix would get a better offer. Enjoy playing for Gene Simmons in the arena league boys.

By all means, do feed him. The more Sandy posts, the merrier FN. Look at it this way: If Sandy's posts are so out there that they make you feel more normal, that's a good thing.
