Canucks ready to deal

07:47 AM ET 01.15 | Things are starting to come together again in Vancouver, where the Canucks have see the return of defenseman Alexander Edler. [Winger] Alex Burrows and netminder Roberto Luongo are close to returning as well. It's beginning to come together for them roster-wise. But will they add to it? If it's doable, the word on the street is that the Canucks would like to add a center before the trade deadline or, if not a center, a top-nine winger. But preferably a center, I think. Brad Richardson has been terrific as a No. 3 center for the Canucks, but I suspect they feel if they can have him centering the No. 4 line and upgrade the No. 3 center spot, they would feel better about their playoff chances. ... The Canucks are deep on defense throughout the organization, and that's the carrot they're willing to put out there.

Problem is there are still only 4 or 5 teams completely out of it, and one of those is the Oilers who think their fourth liners are worth first round picks. I dunno how deals can get done in such an environment.

As was mentioned yesterday, if all these teams are "ready to deal" how come there aren't any deals getting done? You might be right with that DL. I think the Oil and some other teams are asking premium prices on bargain basement talent.

Same headline, different team every day. I think they're going in alphabetical order: "Avalanche Ready To Deal." "Blackhawks Ready To Deal." "Blues Ready To Deal." "Bruins Ready To Deal." Canadains Ready To ....."

The Oilers could get a decent return if they'd be willing to package Alice Hurtsky with a 2nd round pick or Nelly Yakupova with another project ... I mean ... prospect. Heaven knows they have plenty of those!

QUOTE(#5):

If they're serious about changing the culture and character of their team, Eberle is the prize they cash in on. Nobody wants to wait around for Yakupov to pull a Kovy, nobody wants a pending-UFA Hemsky, nobody wants a small 3rd line centre for $4.8 million in Gagner. Their reluctance to trade the 2 Live Crew of Eberle, Hall and RNH is understandable, but those three are the only assets (besides their first rounder) anybody with bodies to move really wants.

I haven't checked, but is the draft partuicularly deep this year? That 1st pick might be a carrot

I agree but, they won't move any of those three unless somebody makes them an offer they can't refuse. As is, another 1st pick overall is on it's way to Edmonton.

The top five are pretty decent with a very good D-man (Aaron Ekblad) and three or four big Centers (Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett, Leon Draisaitl and Jared McCann) to pick from. Exactly what Edmonton needs. Rumor is the Oilers are very sweet on Leon Draisaitl from the Prince Albert Raiders.

Look for the Canucks to move Edler. He's good but also inconsistent and I think we all know how Torts feels about inconsistent players.

It ain't bad. Next year's is far deeper, though, with a potential Crosby 2.0 in Connor McDavid up for grabs.

Shhhhh! Don't let Kevin Lowe hear you say that!

You have to be a little more specific than that, Shiprock. We don't want to get any funny ideas about you.
