No. 1 pick headed to D-League

07:28 AM ET 01.16 | In a season that many would grade an "F," Anthony Bennett could soon earn a "D." Even before he didn't play a minute in a 120-118 victory over the Lakers on Tuesday night, [Bennett] was being asked whether he'd be interested in going down to play with the Cavaliers' owned-and-operated NBA Development League franchise in Canton. "It's something I'd think about, for sure," Bennett said before Tuesday's game. "It's not a bad thing, especially going down there, hopefully playing a lot, going out there, building my confidence." Of course, it's not really up to Bennett. A few young players have asked to be sent down so they could get some playing time, but no No. 1 overall pick has ever been sent to the D-League. Hasheem Thabeet, the No. 2 pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2009, did spend time there.

He needs to stop eating at McDonalds & Burger King. Canadian TV network did a story on him over the summer. He looked like somebody put an air hose in his mouth and pumped him up.

He's just Big Boned!

Seriously though. Credit to the young guy if he's willing to put ego aside to improve his game. I still think he will eventually find his game and start contributing more. He's not a #1 pick but he's better than he has shown. I wish him well.

There is nothing wrong with him going there, playing and getting some confidence

January 16, 2014  08:41 AM ET

They should have sent him there awhile back. Weren't they talking about sending him to the Dleague 2 months ago?

January 16, 2014  08:44 AM ET

He needs a couple years in the league before the bust label is squarely placed. He should go down there and learn the game a bit more and get some confidence. With no true number one pick in the draft the Cavs reached a bit here. Victor or drafting size here would have made sense knowing ahead of time that Bynum was a huge gamble.

Don't celebrate too much. He might not be even good enough for the Dleague.

The Team Is To Blame And Not You, Bro.

as of right now,,,,,,this player is garbage on a garbage team in a garbage truck heading for the landfill........

January 16, 2014  09:25 AM ET

As others have said, good he recognizes that it is needed at this point. Still really horrible 1st overall pick though

Lol yeah I know right, two lower record having East teams fighting to the death.

You can see the lack of confidence on his face. ...Why did the Cavs draft this guy #1?
Just like 'hands-of-stone' Kwame Brown, it's not his fault that the team front office made a poor player personnel decision...

Dude's coming off two shoulder surgeries and is fighting for minutes. Once this kid gets some minutes and his confidence back he'll be fine. Kinda reminds me of the Evan Turner situation in Philly. Too many veteran people at his position to give him consistent minutes. Now that Iggy's gone look how Turner has blossomed.

He needs to go to the D League to get his confidence up and get playing time. He is not good enough to be getting minutes over Miles, Deng for a team trying to make the playoffs. Way too soon to say if he is a bust.
