Expanded replay rule imminent

07:33 AM ET 01.16 | Perhaps this is as close as a crossed "T" or a dotted "I." At last, approval of expanded instant replay in baseball is imminent. Major League Baseball is "very close" to formal agreements on replay with the MLB Players Association and World Umpires Association, sources told FOX Sports Wednesday evening. The timing of that progress is important, with MLB owners set to vote on rule changes associated with the replay expansion during their quarterly meeting here Thursday. MLBPA executive director Tony Clark told FOX Sports last weekend that the union was still "working through some of the issues" raised by the replay expansion. But MLB and the union have made progress in recent days, to the point that the revised MLB proposal revealed after Thursday's meeting is likely to have backing from the union.

While we're at it, can we get rid of the foul line umpires in the playoffs? What a waste...

Never going to happen. Umpire union won't let it.

It's kind of like the federal government. When a new Department/Agency is created, even if it ends up being a bad idea, it never goes away.

I still don't like this idea in any way, form or fashion ...

please don't do to baseball what they've done to football. They have absolutely killed the web and flow of the game in football with every other play ending in either a penalty or review. Those sitting on the edge of your seat moments are gone in football.
Keep the human element in baseball, it's what separates the game from all others. It is a part of the fabric of the game.
Remember the 71 Series, the ump calls the runner out at home plate and his back was to the play, the catcher tagged the runner with his glove, it looked like a clean play. Upon further review, the ball wasn't in the glove, it was in the catchers other hand. As fans of the 70's, we've been talking about that play for years. Add reply and this discussion goes away, the game begins to become ho-hum. And the process ruins the game and web and flow. It's Baseball, it doesn't have to be perfect.
Maybe we should give the players uniforms that don't get dirty too?
