Hudler's heart still broken

07:42 AM ET 01.16 | For more than a week, Jiri Hudler kept quiet on the subject. But when [Hudler] was convinced to finally break his silence -- Tuesday morning at the Bridgestone Arena -- he didn't exactly let it rip. No lashing out. No name calling. No how-dare-theys. "Nothing special," was the first thing the Calgary Flames winger said of the shocking decision by Czech Republic coaches to keep him off the Olympic roster. "Disappointing. But there is nothing I can do about it. Just disappointed. A little sad." It's all very puzzling, though. Hudler, as of Monday, led all Czech-born NHLers in scoring, with 37 points. "I don't have a problem with it," Hudler said of the snub. "Just disappointed." Mere hours after the setback, Hudler had gone out and picked up two points in the Flames' 4-3 win over [Colorado].

This one is tough to figure out. Hudler can play multiple positions, put the puck in the net, create offense and is one of the only guys on Calgary who has a positive plus/minus.

A lot has been said about omissions of guys like Ryan, Giroux, Seabrook, etc. but the Czech team absolutely has a spot on their team for Hudler...

Maybe the oddest non-selection of them all. Not like Bobby Ryan's 0 goals and 1 assist since Burke-gate is making him look like a huge snub, after all...

good point.

I guess the feeling with fans was that he Czech'ed out back in 95.

Hudler seemed like a lock for the Czech team. I'm now curious as to what Czech management's knock against him was.

This might explain his exclusion....

Jiri went to the team optician who showed him a card with the letters:

C Z W X N Q S T A C Z

"Can you read this?" the optician asks.

"Read it?" the Jiri replies, "I even know the guy."

"It's all very puzzling, though. Hudler, as of Monday, led all Czech-born NHLers in scoring, with 37 points."

There's more to being a hockey player that putting up points. Small things like ... character and trustworthiness. Which makes me wonder ... how did Alice Hurtsky get picked?

LOL! I thought you were going to say, "Read it? That's my wife!"
