Biggest loser in Scrivens deal

07:45 AM ET 01.16 | While not a blockbuster, Edmonton helped shake up the trade market Wednesday. A bit after trading for Matt Hendricks, a fourth-liner with a bad contract, the Oilers acquired goalie Ben Scrivens from the Los Angeles Kings for a third-round draft pick. Scrivens replaces Devan Dubnyk, who headed to Nashville in the Hendricks trade. ... The biggest loser in the deal, though, is Scrivens' wife, Jenny. She's a California native, and something tells us she's going to be bummed. ... [From @JenScrivs on Dec. 25:] "Trying to capture a photo of our tree this a.m., but the sunlight streaming through the window & reflecting from the ocean make it tough #LA." ... [From @JenScrivs on Dec. 15:] "I paid my dues with 3 years in Toronto and 4 in New York. And I will never complain about weather again. Ever."

Scrivens becomes an unrestricted free agent in April. It's a fairly safe assumption that his wife will not be joining him on his 4-month temp job in Edmonton.

Or a better question is why the hell did Edmonton have to waste a 3rd rounder on a guy who will be UFA along with Miller, Hiller, Halak, Thomas etc. Different GM, same clueless direction.

I don't really understand the purpose of moving to acquire a player when your team is comfortably seated in the basement. It's a hollow move in order to make belief that they are really trying. The only thing that they could actually hope to achieve with this move is for Scrivens to play out of their mind and then wind up with a pick somewhere in the 8-12 range.

January 16, 2014  09:37 AM ET

oh...that and WGAF what a player's wife has to say about anything? She gets to sit around and lead a life of luxury without lifting a finger. I could care less if she was exiled to Alaska.

Is it really fun to vote against a guy that makes a point of losing every single TD he is in?

DJ was fun because he actually took it seriously.

I agree...DJ would stamp his lttle feet and get mad
this guy clearly thinks rather highly of himself and his intellect, and i daresay he is more than a little bit mistaken on both counts. If I may, I suggest the Rick Blaine/Ugarti approach:
Ugarti: "you despise me, don't you?"
Blaine; "well if I gave you any thought, I probably would"

my favourite insult in movie history

So, to summarize, the Oilers give up a draft pick for a UFA goalie and then trade for a 4th liner with a bad contract. If it wasn't the Oilers it would be a head scratcher. But, since it is the Oilers, sure, makes sense, next thread please.

OK, I'm not the only one scratching my head over that one. Unless the Oil think they can sign him for a reasonable price.

It's a head scratcher of a deal to be sure.

Because they have more 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders for this coming draft than they know what to do with. Not a waste at all.

The only reason the Preds traded for Diva is because of a hurting Pekka.
