Melo calls out Woody's coaching fail

07:35 AM ET 01.17 | If the Knicks were interested in facing Indiana as a litmus test, they certainly failed. [The Knicks] got humiliated again by the Pacers, 117-89, Thursday night on national television. Carmelo Anthony, rejected emphatically again by center Roy Hibbert, called the rout "embarrassing" and then called out Mike Woodson for not making any adjustments to counteract the Indiana onslaught. ... Melo shot just 1 of 9 after the opening quarter and sat out the fourth to await Friday's Garden match against the Clippers. He had little help when the Pacers collapsed on him. "They made adjustments the way they played the pick-and-roll, the way they packed the paint and stayed with our 3-point shooters," Anthony said. "They made that adjustment. We didn't make the adjustment back to it."

How much worse can it get in NY?

Coaching the Knicks = Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Melo needs a reality check!!

Sounds like coach made an adjustment by putting Melo and his 1-for-9 shooting on the bench.

An this is the guy the Lakers want to play with coach D'Antoni? If you think things are bad in LA just wait until they get Melo.

QUOTE(#6):

wow what an ugly game last night...in a way melo is right.....I mean after woody had that coaching debacle against washington a month ago ( Not instructing players to give a foul, with one to give, and not calling a timeout to advance the ball to halfcourt, and design a better shot ) is this much of a surprise?

Woody isn't an offensive coach and he coaches scared.
He doesn't want to upset melo, so he just let's them play
- if they are hitting their shots they look good....if not they look horrible

I think though now the issue is the rotation is totally screwed up
And there isn't the continuity/stability
Either Marbury Jr or give him the keys to the car.
Play the younger guys regularly or sit them

Just stop with all the variety

Melo fails as a TEAM player.....Woodson fails as a coach.

It's really as simple as that.

January 17, 2014  08:42 AM ET

Nice! Pointing fingers! Was it because JR played? Coincidence????

Melo's Iso game failed him last night against a smothering defense. He has trained his teammates not to look for passes so this was the result. Blame the coach? Look at yourself ball hog.

Harsh but true. 3 guys on him which means there players open. He forces some shots.

Sorry Melo the Knicks are who they are. Their best player is an iso ball player, it looks good when the shots go in but when it doesn't. Indy was able to keep the Knicks out of the paint and the shots stop falling. Indy is just too good defensively for the Knicks Melo knows it, Woodson knows it too.

I disagree...melo while not perfect is a superstar, and at time seems like the only knick playing the full game...but thats just me

I would like to see Melo go on a facilitating sample of games how Kobe did it briefly last year. When someone is good at iso scoring everybody just sits around looking doing nothing. There are times when that is needed but it hurts the overall team and it becomes very easy to defend. Melo seems to think the only way to win is by his shooting but if he doesn't have a backup plan to be a decoy or passer they are going nowhere.

That sounds like what Laker fans have said in Kobe's defense in the past. It's a symptom of both guys ball hogging style which leaves their teammates standing around. It looks like they are the only ones doing anything.
