04:58 PM ET 01.17 | Green Bay Packers fullback John Kuhn is one of the top lead blockers in the game, who also has the ability to carry the ball and be a reliable third-down back. He is also a fan-favorite in Green Bay and chants of his last name are deafening in the stadium every time he touches the ball. However, Kuhn is set to become a free agent in March. There is a real chance that another team interested in Kuhn's services could come sweeping in on the open market and make an offer to lure Kuhn away from Lambeau, but the Packers won't give up easily. While they may not be willing to open up the check book for their fullback, the team is interested in re-signing Kuhn for the veteran minimum.

This is what happens when you give a QB megabucks....less money available for established players.

Kuhn is a 32 year old FB... This guy is expendable...

Normally I'd agree.

But there are a couple intangibles. He's an outstanding pass blocker, and considering the turnstiles that play o-line in Green Bay, that's a plus. Now, they could draft another one, but by all accounts only Denver has more offensive plays/packages than GB. Now you have to teach the new guy (weeks? months?) what this guy already knows.

Fullbacks are becoming an endangered species in the NFL and many teams have offensive schemes that don't utilize FB's...

One team's trash could be another team's treasure. You should know that being a Pats fan.

Age shouldn't be a factor as much as injury would be. Nor would lack of speed. He's the lead blocker. He's a FB. He's probably on the field for only 15-20% of the offensive plays. So there's no wear and tear.

hey,.....at least add some incentive$/bonuse$ to his minimum.

League minimum isn't exactly trying hard. Fact is the guy touches the ball 2 or 3 times a game, that is expendable. Perhaps Rodgers or Matthews or some other overpaid player wants to help out?

January 18, 2014  09:01 AM ET

Kuhn proved his worth time and time again, but especially in the CHI-GB finale when he threw the block on Peppers that enabled Rodgers to complete to Cobb, win the game and get the team into the playoffs. League minimum is insulting and GB had better open up the checkbook. (Kuhn's also a fan fave.)

So the Packers are interested in re-signing a great pass blocker for minimum wage!

Freakin' Duh!
