08:23 AM ET 01.18 | New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan says he will indeed cut his controversial silver locks in the future, but it will be on his own terms and for a cause higher than securing a job interview. Recently, members of the media have speculated that perhaps Ryan didn't receive any head coaching attention when the Saints season ended because he doesn't look the part with his long hair. Pundits theorized that Ryan needs a hair cut before anyone would take him seriously, despite the fact that he took the Saints defense from worst in league history to a Top 5 unit in most categories in just one season. "It is getting kind of long now. Eventually, I'll cut it," Ryan said Wednesday during an impromptu interview at a New Orleans Pelicans game."But not now with the peer pressure. I think I'll let it grow."

Hair today, hair tomorrow. Who cares?
(It's been said many times before: Ryan's a D coach, no more, no less.)

"... because he doesn't look the part with his long hair."

So how a coach should look like to get the part?

If he was bald he would still have the wrong personality to be a HC.

I agree with 50, his personality isnt right for a HC position.

I'll take "things the media writes about while trying not to fall off their bar stools" for $500 Alex!

Any guy that will not get a haircut to get a job just does not want the job very much. Happens everyday in the business world, and the NFL is a business. A 16 year old? I get it. A grown man? Nope.

Wouldn't it be fun to get Rob to coach D and Tom Cable O for the Jets?

I think he realizes he has hit the ceiling on advancement, cutting his hair won't help ; so the Ryan way is to be defiant

<I kinda admire him for that>

"almost cut my hair today, was getting kinda long..." CSN

Some said that about Belichick after his Browns days.

Since when did the NFL's Head Coaching position become a beauty contest? Have these reporters seen the fat slobs calling the plays on the sidelines?

If he was good enough to be a head coach, he'd be a head coach. Comment #6 says it all - the guy isn't stable enough to trust as HC.

I don't think he's stupid or dumb, but I do think he took far too many helmet hits!!!!!!

January 18, 2014  01:53 PM ET

His hair keeps him from being recognized as Rob

You think Rob Ryan is the same as Bill Belichick? Why, the hair alone tells the tale.

Ridiculous.
