Cavs ecstatic over Luol Deng

10:27 AM ET 01.19 | Luol Deng has been "better than advertised," according to one top Cavaliers operative. The team knew that he was very skilled, but the coaching staff has really appreciated his leadership. The Cavs desperately need a veteran who can back the coach. Anderson Varejao is just too quiet. Jarrett Jack is a backup guard. But Deng is a two-time All-Star, one of the most respected players in the league.

Wow who would have thought that adding a professional ballplayer to a team of children would help

Can You Lead Them To The Promised Land, Bro?

Right now he is a rental. They should sign him now and not wait for a bidding war to kick off this summer. He's probably the best free agent available this summer if the Cavs don't lock him in.

I am with you. This guy could help them salvage this horrid season and maybe even help win a first round series in the LEASTern conference. When he does, they better get ready to pay the max because outside of Melo, he's the best UFA this summer.* Bron hasn't said he will opt out *

Depending on the team I would take Deng before I would take Melo in many cases. For instance The Lakers have Kobe so Deng would probably work better there. I think if the Cavs let Deng go and took Melo it would hurt them also.

Melo would be a great fit in Chicago where they have defense but no scorer.

The Cavs really do need to keep Deng. He is really the perfect guy for them

-he is a pro and a great example for all the young guys

-he took their position of greatest weakness and instantly became a huge strength

if you keep Deng around with this team they will do good stuff in the next couple years. They acquired all those picks for a reason- and getting a player like Deng is what they wanted to do.

(and at next years trade deadline you can deal Deng and Waiters and 2 first rounders for Kevin Love ;) ) ....just kidding....mostly...

"The Bulls have Rose" ?

That hasn't been true for a couple of years now. As for the trade it wasn't smart it was cheap. They saved some money but lost a great player.

A Deng on the court is worth a lot more than a Rose on the bench in street clothes
