07:43 AM ET 01.20 | In Year 3, Jeff Samardzija has making an even greater impact on his mind. [Samardzija] threw a career-high 213 2/3 innings in 2013. In 2014, he's hoping to break the 230-inning mark. In his second full year as a starter, Samardzija also hit career highs in hits and runs allowed, as well as a 4.34 ERA. But after using the offseason to rest and recover from the increased workload, Samardzija said he's prepping himself to throw even more in the upcoming campaign. How do 230 innings sound? "With all those innings of work also came a little confidence in my delivery and just repeating everything I'm doing. Just giving myself a little more of a break and prepping myself to even go beyond that 215 innings next year and hopefully get into 230 and above," Samardzija told CSN's Kelly Crull.

The Cubs would be happy with more quality innings out of you, instead of running up more innings.

How is he supposed to rack up 230 innings when he can't even pitch past the 6th inning? It is deadbeat production such as this that force the Cubs to offer 25 million to some Tojo from Japan.

I hope the Cubs land Tanaka and pay him $25 per for 8 years. That is exactly what the Cubs need.

Agreed. Theo needs a Tanaka Blast. $200 million seems reasonable

yes but there is a lot to overcome, that's not impossible but still the team may have to offer more than just 25 millions per season!!

If the Sox land this guy, I'm going to write Hahn a strongly-worded letter.
