07:54 AM ET 01.20 | The headline, of course, is that David Ash has been medically cleared to participate in offseason workouts and spring football practice. [Texas] announced in mid-November that Ash was expected to participate in spring drills. Trainer Kenny Boyd made it official in a one-sentence press release. Assuming that Ash can continue his career without injury, the school may pursue a medical redshirt from NCAA officials after the 2014 season. Ash played in three games last season but ultimately couldn't overcome concussion symptoms initially suffered against BYU. ... Ash will compete for the starting job with freshman Tyrone Swoopes and incoming recruit Jerrod Heard from Denton Guyer. Heard has stated numerous times that he was "100 percent" committed to Texas despite the coaching change.

At this point I'm just hoping Ash and Swoopes don't steal reps from Heard.

I'm very surprised to read that Ash is even considering coming back. As far as the others go, I'm pretty sure when all is said and done, that Swoopes is going to be the Texas QB at the beginning of next season. How well Heard comes along will dictate how long Swoopes will be the Texas QB. I don't see Heard being the guy from the get go. Eventually? Yes. Game 1 next season? No way.
