Welker feels bad for the Pats

07:37 AM ET 01.20 | For Wes Welker, Monday morning could understandably be celebrated in two ways. The Denver Broncos receiver is headed back to the Super Bowl. And it comes at the expense of the New England Patriots ... Last spring, he bolted to the Broncos as a free agent after contract talks with the Patriots turned nasty. It became so acrimonious that the two sides disputed each other's versions of the events that led to the departure of the franchise's leading receiver. Given that, isn't this victory a bit more significant? "Maybe a little bit," Welker told USA TODAY Sports. "But I've got a lot of love for a lot of guys over there, and the organization and the team, a lot of respect. I feel bad for 'em. Because I've been in that situation that they're in right now." That's as close as Welker came to rubbing it in.

Why? Because he took out Talib?

January 20, 2014  07:57 AM ET

Notice he didn't say anything about his love for the Pats coach?

January 20, 2014  07:57 AM ET

I'm guessing he ain't feeling much love for Little Bill though...

Great minds.... ^^^^^^^

If not for BB he wouldn't have that nice contract with Denver. He was nothing when the Pats traded for him from Miami.

My thoughts too.

Say what everyone wants to hear, Wes

He probably forgets San Diego and Miami didn't want him. How quickly they forget.

He did, but it was a perfectly clean block. And, Talib gets hurt a lot anyway.

Give Welker credit for being a hard-working football player.

And give Denver credit for being the better team yesterday.

The game had a blowout feel to it.

You cannot feel bad for a team that will be heavy favorites again to win the AFC East and be right back in the playoffs again in 14.

The two best teams in the AFC played each other and the two best QBs in the NFL did all they could. Someone had to win and someone had to lose. It is in the rules.

January 20, 2014  08:54 AM ET

There wasn't any need to try and rub it in. It was Super Bowl or bust for both of these teams.

Biggest play of the game.

Welker had 67 receptions with Joey Harrington as his qB his last year in Miami. BB traded for him for a reason. If anything it was Brady and Josh McDaniels who gave him the boost.

I know one thing: Danny Amendola is no Wes Welker.

If he was nothing I'm sure Belichick would not have traded for him.
