07:24 AM ET 01.21 | Even if no franchise wants to do it, there will be a "Hard Knocks" this summer. This was ensured at the NFL Fall Meeting, when a rule passed that allowed the league to appoint a team to be the subject of the popular HBO series if no other team volunteers. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that all organizations will be eligible with the exception of those that have a first-year head coach; teams that have made the playoffs in at least one of the last two seasons; and teams that have participated in the previous 10 seasons. ... Here are the eligible teams. Any of these teams can be selected to appear on the show if there are no volunteers: Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Louis Rams.

Steelers are probably the league's preferred pick.

I'd like to see the Rams in there, but I don't know why I care, I'm not going to watch it anyway.

EXACTLY!!

Heck with following teams. HBO should tell Goodell they want to follow him and be in his office and tape Mondays after games to listen in on who got fined and why and what calls the officials missed each week. Listen to Roger howl then. Apparently the league will do anything for money.

Nothing screams ratings more than "Hard Knocks - Training Camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars".

Probably, but I don't see it happening. I doubt the Rooneys will go for it.

I'd be more interested in this then a hard knocks series on the NYJ.

Steelers, Arizona, Bears, Giants, Bills, Jags, Raiders and Rams are the order I'd put it in for first choice to last though.
Steelers are very old fanchise with a lot of tradition, with a relatively well filled-out roster they present a big opportunity.
Arizona is exciting, Bruce Arians is a walking reality T.V show wherever he goes and it's definitely a PR golden nugget.
Bears and Giants are pretty much the same only the Giants have a lot of negativity on their roster which doesn't really attract fans. Bears have new exciting HC who made Josh McCown look like Daunte Culpepper (pre Troy Wiliamson WR corps).
Bills are young team but their head coach-while adequate, is something of a wild card who may have to come down harder on his younger players then other coaches. Certainly interesting T.V but Bills also have to succeed. Though if somehow this Hard Knocks jinx turns their never going to win a super bowl jinx by jinxing the jinx-they should jump at the opportunity. (Bills fans are pretty invested in the team so it would be popular)
Jags and Raiders are the same, middling teams tinkering with the small pieces and shooting themselves in the foot more often then not-no need to see it on T.V.
Rams-Jeff Fisher.

Leave it to Jeff Fisher to be in my 666th comment.

Quick. say anything, just don't get it deleted.

I have never watched any segment of Hard Knocks in my life. so I should just not comment. My bad.

I think the anticipation for it is what drives most of its viewership. So by suggesting something else you're just feeding the viewers who are anticipating something NFL related on T.V.

Watched one episode of hard knocks, wasn't too impressed. I like the 24/7 they do for NHLs Montreal Canadiens more-but I am a Canadiens fan so I might be a little biased. It just seemed like a lot of what they filmed was words and we had to imply what they meant-which led us nowhere. Certainly there is an appeal to be in a game briefing session and the coaches can't give information away but there is a lot more to the team then just game briefing and from sneak peaks on other episodes I couldn't really tell.

That's why the Steelers organization, in good times and bad, will always have a modicum of class and pedigree.

January 21, 2014  09:27 AM ET

I can't see the Steelers voluntarily agreeing to do this soap opera garbage show....

January 21, 2014  09:35 AM ET

Gints, please. Lot of turmoil brewing there.

I don't think the Rooney's have a choice. It sounds like someone will get stuck with it if no one wants it. And I know if I was a head coach, I would want nothing to do with it.
