Heat's path to title easier than ever?

07:27 AM ET 01.21 | The Heat have some legitimate defensive issues to straighten, but the season is a long one. No slight to the Portland Trail Blazers, whose 31-9 start (and corresponding rise to No. 2 in our power poll) undeniably ranks as one of the best stories in North American sports, but the lack of a truly imposing assemblage in the West appears to have made Miami's path to a three-peat easier than it was supposed to be. It doesn't look all that grind-y at the moment, frankly, no matter how much time we spend these days dissecting Miami's up-and-down motivation levels. ... Season-ending injuries to Derrick Rose and Brook Lopez have thinned out the top of the East to the point that the two-time champs realistically have only one series to worry about to get back to the Finals.

It's just Miami vs Indiana in the east. Miami is the favorite to win the whole thing and I wouldn't bet against them

The good thing for the Heat is that the EC is very weak. The bad thing is that they're losing to these mediocre teams. They're not showing any kind of dominance. It may only be regular season but it does define a team. The Heat almost lost last finals even w/ a dominating regular season w/ 27 straight wins. This coming playoffs will not be that easier.

The heat haven't had any legit teams to go through (other than the pacers last year) since their run began. Every team they played in the last couple years has had injuries or stunk

Wrong.
When the heat won their first title who did they face in the ECF?
The celtics, whom still had the fantastic 4 of Pierce,KG,Allen with Rondo.....
There real threat only came in the ECF the last 3 years.
When Wade won his first title the road was harder cause the nets were deeper, bulls always gave them problems before Rose was drafted.
Now then if I'm Bron weather the heat win again or not am bolting to Toronto.
And here is why, not only do they have more cap space after the Gay trade(and not to mention both Salmons,Amir John are team options) but to me they are the realistic team he should sign with if not remain in Miami.
Three things:
the raps have the core group of players...Derozen & Lowry since the Gay trade should be all stars, the raps defense has improved and in games these days if they don't blow teams out they play you tough for 48 minutes.
Wade's missing games of back to back formula is hurting the heat.
The reason they are losing to teams like the hawks is cause that other wing threat isn't on the court.
Sure Bosh,Chalmers,Allen stepped up. But you still need your entire core in place.
Raps also have a decent bench and even if they don't resign Lowry if Bron were to go there who wouldn't wanna play with him???

The Heat had two good teams to go through last year. The Pacers and the Spurs slugged it out with them for 7 games.

Morning Dee.

wasn't rondo hurt in that series?

- and yes- the first year the bulls were a legit team-
forgot them

but that has been it-
literally TWO tough series to get to the finals in 3 years?
maybe 3 if we count that boston team?

I'd hardly consider that a tough road.
- and dee- that isn't miami's fault - you play whom you play

Honestly as I posted in comment #5 it wouldn't shock me if Bron goes to T Dot.

The Bulls didn't give Wade too many problems before Rose was drafted because they were barely playoff participants

Going to get interesting wondering what lbj will do. I'm inclined to think he will stay. He still has a healthy Bostrich even when Wade is hurting.

Honestly I doubt it. He's going to grow more interested in his legacy as he gets older and I think he will stay in the USA.

They only played in the playoffs twice between the Jordan era and Rose getting drafted. They spanked us in '06 and we swept an injury-riddled team in '07.

The only team that can stop the Heat is the Heat. Anything less than a three-peat and Lebron walks...
