Mets still seeking starters

07:29 AM ET 01.21 | They may not be done dealing in Queens just yet. Even after adding left-hander John Lannan to the fifth-starter competition, the Mets still may be in the market for more rotation options. "Lannan does not necessarily preclude us from signing another starter," assistant GM John Ricco told ESPNNewYork.com. Right now, Lannan and Jenrry Mejia would appear the primary competitors for the final rotation spot behind Bartolo Colon, Jonathon Niese, Zack Wheeler and Dillon Gee. Prospects Jacob deGrom and Rafael Montero are in that competition as well, but appear likely to open the season at Triple-A Las Vegas. Top prospect Noah Syndergaard will be in big-league camp, but the Mets have been open in projecting a midseason promotion for him, in a similar timeframe to Wheeler and Matt Harvey the past two seasons.

If I am the Mets I would either sign a has been or put a prospect in the starting rotation, because there is no reason to spend money on a front line pitcher with little chance of winning this year.

Always a good idea to build pitching depth.

Mets have been broke for 3 years now,,,,

It was great seeing them finish ABOVE THE SILLIES last year.... who had one of the biggest payrolls in MLB....

Stinks to be a Sillies fan....

Yikes...relying on Colon and Wheeler for a whole season is not a recipe for success. Considering what happened to Harvey too....

I'm not sure what the front office's reputation is like (I haven't heard good things), but I would imagine three to five years worth of last place and some good, pitching heavy drafts can change this team into a contender. FA position players are easy enough to come by.
