07:35 AM ET 01.21 | One day well before Brady Taylor was a 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive lineman, he was an eighth-grader in the stands at a Buckeyes game. [Taylor looked his mother] in the eyes and made a promise that would take years to fulfill. "I told my Mom then that one day I was going to play at Ohio State," Taylor told Cleveland.com in a phone interview Monday. "She kind of blew it off, but I said, 'No, I promise I am going to be a Buckeye one day. That has been my goal ever since." Then Monday morning came and Taylor, along with his mother and the rest of his family, was sitting in Urban Meyer's office with a scholarship offer in hand. Meyer sat across the desk giving one final pitch as to why Taylor should be a Buckeye. What Meyer may not have known was that Taylor had already made up his mind.

Bring home the bacon Urbie, bring home the bacon.

Good to hear. I'm sure this story repeats itself at every stadium across the country every year. The problem is the kids don't grow up to be 6-5 280lbs. But Its cool that a 8th grader made up his mind and then was able to follow thru with his dream.

There's nothing like getting a chance to suit up for a team you love.

280 lbs is a lot of bacon.

And what a chunk of bacon! Taylor had initially committed to Virginia Tech via OL coach Jeff Grimes. When Grimes went to LUSt, Taylor was open to UFM's message. The young man is a great acquisition; student at Bishop Ready HS in the hard-scrabble west side of C-bus.

Taylor currently rated a 3-star, but one thing is certain: you can't coach size. The kid's got it.

So you are saying the INITIALLY this kids wasn't going to fulfill his promise of playing for tOSU?

... and the Buckeyes promised to give him an 8th grade education. It's a win-win.

From what I've been reading, BR, tOSU by-passed Brady Taylor and didn't signal any interest in the young man (probably due to the 3* rating). He made a verbal commit to VT last July. Then the Bucks suddenly had a bare cupboard with graduating offensive linemen. UFM subsequently offered a scholarship to the young man, and Taylor happily took it.

I think Brady always wanted to play for tOSU, but the offer came later. Better late than never.

Those *s aren't always accurate. In fact, it could be that aren't even close in many instances. Me thinks the best teams have their own evaluation ratings and don't necessarily go by the "*s".

Off season is dull. We need grenades to spice this up. Doc's the grenade chunker today.

Story floating around that Jim Tressel will become OC for the Detroit Lions.

Exhibit #1: Michigan State Spartans. It's more on how you coach 'em up.

Mornin' DC!

The only things that could make that even more of a zinger would be if it was posted by an SEC fan, and was addressed to Bluesuiter.

Red herring. ESPN says it'll be Joe Lombardi as OC for Detroit. The Vest would be a better fit in Cleveland anyway.

You need to get a Rx from the good Dr. on how to write quality zingers.

Hey, thanks Harley. I do agree with DC on this issue. Dantonio loves to see a kid in camp before he extends an offer. How they do at the various camps (i.e. tryouts) is really key as far as MSU recruiting goes.
