07:24 AM ET 01.21 | While a good number of the NFL's front office officials are in Mobile, Ala., for the senior bowl, the Dolphins' highest-ranking official is assistant GM Brian Gaine, who is also one of seven candidates vying to replace Jeff Ireland. The others: Ray Farmer (Browns), Lake Dawson (Titans), Omar Khan (Steelers), Brian Xanders (Lions), Jason Licht (Cardinals) and Dennis Hickey (Buccaneers). What's more, the Dolphins plan to interview additional applicants. ... Both the quantity and quality of candidates have league insiders at the Senior Bowl scratching their heads -- to put it kindly. The Dolphins' search -- and their bizarre 2013 season in general -- is the talk of the town. ... "Oooof," is how one source, who has been a scout for multiple teams, put it.

Whomever gets hired will be a little behind in the game, but as long as it's a quality hire, that's all that matters. Once the Browns hire a coach and you still don't have a GM, then it becomes embarassing.

You can take your pick on which organization gets the Jackass Award for 13 the Browns or the Fish.

The Clown Car is waiting at Dolphins HQ's.

Apparently Carl Peterson has been running the show for years behind the scenes. Maybe owner Ross should put on his thinking cap and figure out that all that advice his old buddy Carl has been giving him is part of the problem..

Joe Philbin isn't the best option at HC.
Norv Turner was on the board this year as OC and he went to Minnesota despite their lack of a viable QB. Can't tell me if Miami had offered him the same money and tenure he wouldn't have taken the opportunity to jump to the weak AFC East (are they the east?).
But yeah, Carls a problem. Same with most of Dolphins ownership. Somehow they've attracted players to Miami-it helps they're in Miami but they've stil managed to houdini their way here.

Miami is not that far from being a playoff team. It would be a great spot for a new HC or GM.

Philbins got complete control over his staff though from what I gather. Meaning a GM can't fire them without Philbins OK and meaning he can't just hire a better skills position coach.
The GM is just there for FA, contract negotiations and Drafting-still a sizeable job but the lack of coaching responsibility could be seen as a deterent for future GM positions. I could see the Steelers GM taking it-only because we're over the cap and he might not want to be the one that has to get rid of some stars.

They need to restructure their OL to help protect Tannehill as well as improve their running game.

I never understood how Peterson hung on for so long at KC. If you're looking for a model organization to try and emulate (and the Phins should be), shouldn't you pick a franchise that has won at least one playoff game since Len Dawson retired?

Mismanagement starts at the top.
I've been of the opinion since Parcells took the money and ran once he met his new owner, Ross, that something is wrong in that ownership structure. Dolphins fans are in denial about this issue when I've brought it up on FN.
Until they get a good GM free of ownership interference the Phish will continue to be a joke.

Perhaps they could expand a bit on "Oooof".

Tittering and snickering, definitely ... however, the biggest guffaws are still reserved for the Grieveland Browns.
