Browns set up for another coaching fail

07:24 AM ET 01.22 | Adam Gase merely becomes the latest to pass on Jimmy Haslam's gig. The bigger worry has been evident from the start of the search: Last year's search. Does an experienced coach want to report to [Joe Banner], want to give up control of the roster and draft to Banner and Mike Lombardi? If you allow that they don't, and the front office knows it, then the Browns canvassing the league to find the best understudy shouldn't surprise anyone. The Browns have brought some of this angst on themselves, of course. This is how Haslam allowed Banner to set up the organization. ... Does the pace of the search mean they won't be able to hire a good coach? No. Will anyone remember this process one way or another? No. Especially if there's another one next year.

Patience, Browns fans. Jason Garrett's contract runs out at the end of the 2014 season.

I read that J.J. is bringing Monte Kiffin back next season.

My sympathies, sir...

yup..another wasted season. Since they are all under contract for 2014, JJ thought it would be a great idea to bring the whole gang back for another round.

They could bring Tom Landry back from the grave. Gotta have players.

I think people are very definitely going to remember this process--disaster--whatever, especially if they repeat it again next year. Bummer, Cleveland.

some of the players should join Landry.

I think this is the best thing to happen to the Browns. Haslem needs to see that knee jerk reactions like hiring and firing your coaches will come back to haunt you. Also, it is almost a certainty that the next coaching regime will fail and then both Banner and Lombardi will be shown the door!

The only way this new coach will work out, and I highly doubt he will, is "IF" somehow they find a franchise QB in this draft. A good QB makes any coaching staff look good! The only reason Adam Gase was in the hunt is because he has Peyton, not because he calls a great game.

Line of the day - from the Ticket...

Jason Garrett, Jerry Jones and the coaching staff are in Mobile doing what they do worst - evaluating talent.

The person who ends up as coach of the Brownies will not have to worry about being fired after the 14 campaign, because ownership does not need to see another Haslam Circus next winter even if they have another losing season in Cleveland.

Advice to unemployed coaches as they go through their options. If it's an offer from the Browns, flush it down.

to be fair (which I hate to do with them) but they have hit on some recently. Tyron Smith, Fredericks, Terrence Williams, Murray, Lee. They just don't get enough out of each draft.

With TJ Ward getting into the Pro Bowl, that makes 6 Browns players. So six pro bowlers, two 1st round draft picks, and lots of salary room. That's a pretty good start for any new head coach.
